Prayer request for Patti Reid

To Readers of ColumbiaMagazine.com:

Would you share this prayer request for my close family member, Patti Reed, who has just learned she has breast cancer and is being scheduled for surgery. This is a request for all believers to join us in prayer for her healing from the disease of cancer, for God to be in the hands of the surgeons and all who care for her through treatment. We're asking that God also strengthen and comfort her husband and their son.

Some people are very private and would not want prayers requested, but Patti believes in Matthew 18:19-20: "... if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. For where two or more are gathered together in My Name, I am there in the midst of them."

Thank you in advance,

s/Linda Waggener

Remembering Mr. Collins and the Collins: What great people!

CM Note: The funeral service for Mr. Luther Collins at Columbia United Methodist Church, 202 Burkesville ST, Columbia, KY

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

Just a few words of kindness for the wonderful Collins Family. I remember back in the early 60s my sister Mary worked at the Corner Drug Store for the Collins.

She really loved them. I remember going to the store many times to visit her. There was Dorothy with her beautiful smile and Mr. Collins talking with all the customers.

When one of the family was sick and needed medicine they saw you got it with paying then or later. My mother is now at Summit Manor Nursing Home it was there the last time I saw Mr. Collins.

They were serving dinner in the dining room there. My mom walked over to him and asked him if he knew her. Even though he couldn't speak he nodded his head and smiled.

She also said, "you always let us have our medicine with or without money." Mr. Collins, also being the great man he was, smiled at her and nodded.

In my heart I know he knew what she was saying.

What great people! God Bless you, the Collins family.

And thank you, Mr. Collins.

What if we had more people in the world like this today. God Bless you, Brenda, for what you do everyday.

Remembering Dorothy and Luther Collins: First job at Collins Drug

About: Remembering From The 1950s A Special Person At A Special Place On The Columbia
CM Note: The funeral service for Mr. Luther Collins at Columbia United Methodist Church, 202 Burkesville ST, Columbia, KY

To ColumbiaMagazine.com

Just saw the picture of Mr. and Mrs. Collins and note by Nina Park Clubb - now Day, retired and living in Adair County -my best friend in High School.

I had my first job at the drugstore. Saturdays were hectic to say the least. My first day was a Saturday and I got off work at 9 p.m. My dad picked me up and we drove home to Hwy. 206; I could hardly get out of the car!!!

I cooked my first "over-easy" egg for some gentleman - egg turned out to be almost well done. He smiled and said, "I'm glad I didn't ask for it to be well-done,"

Being the youngest of 11 and one of only two girls (my sister Martha, used to work at the drug store too, at one time - she was 3 years older than me. I was somewhat spoiled and hadn't done much cooking. I would rather be outside!!

Sue Yates was more or less in charge of food area.

I remember the good chicken salad and pimento cheese salad.

Remembering Luther Collins: A Special Friend

To Columbiamagazine.com:

I was saddened to hear of the passing of Mr. Luther Collins.

I fondly remember my dad (Richard Smith) talking about Mr. Collins when he operated the Collins Drug Store in Columbia.

Dad often told us children how he could get prescriptions without money and pay for it on time. He always called Mr. Luther Collins a special friend to him. Mr. Collins was a dear friend to all he met, even until the time of his passing.

My sister worked for Mr. Collins for a number of years in the little restaurant they had in the pharmacy.

I have had the privilege to be with him some in the last few months and it was a pleasure. I now know what my dad was speaking about when he spoke of Mr. Luther Collins as being a special friend.

News from Russell Co., KY: Post from Manners Diner

By John E. Moss, correspondent

Rick at the Manner's Diner said that the fellow at The Wave 92.7 radio station was talking really good on the air about CM over the weekend. He also liked the photographs, especially the Russell Springs water tower one. I have a poster of it coming in. Thinking about giving it to the Radio Guy.
Thanks for the post from Monument Square, Jamestown, KY famed as the home of Manner's Diner. The Radio Guy you speak of may be the one over here who is aka "Larry Smith," and up yonder in Campbellsville, KY, on the Big Dawg radio, he or a clone goes by "Larry Smith."
