Obituary: James Ottis (Jay) Burton, 81, Columbia, KY

Mr. Burton was a farmer and was a member of a large, respected Adair County family. He was a US Army Veteran and a farmer

James Ottis "Jay" Burton, age 81 years, of 3940 Snake Creek Road, Columbia, KY passed away Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at 2:10amCT at the Taylor Regional Hospital in Campbellsville, KY after several months illness.

The funeral service will be Thursday, March 4, 2010, at 10:amCT, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Ralph Foster officiating. Interment in the Haven Hill Cemetery, 1276 Liberty RD, Columbia, KY. Visitation will be after 3pmCT, Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at the funeral home.

He was the son of the late James B. and Mary Bettie Sinclair Burton of Adair Co., KY.Mr. Burton was a farmer and a US Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Elizabeth Bryant Burton, Columbia, KY and the following:
  • One son: Ricky Burton and special friend Teresa Feese, Columbia, KY

  • Two daughters: Karen Burton and husband Murrell, Columbia, KY, and Ada Burton and husband Nathaniel, Columbia, KY

  • Six grandchildren: Erik Burton, Kelly Lane and Eric, Christopher Burton, Ashley Curry and Keith, Grigory Burton, Daniel Burton

  • Three great grandchildren: Camden Burton, Madison Lane and Myla Curry

  • And several nieces, nephews and friends
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Orby Burton, Raymond Burton and one infant brother, Archie L.
