KY Fish & Wildlife has to euthanize two people habituated bears

Feeding bears can be signing their death warrants

From Kentucky Fish & Wildlie

Frankfort, Ky. - Biologists with the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources were forced to euthanize a 480-pound black bear this week after it exhibited unacceptable behaviors of habituation to people. The decisive instance occurred after the bear allowed a woman and small child to approach within four feet of it at Kingdom Come State Park in Harlan County.

It was the third bear euthanized in Kentucky by department biologists in less than two months.

Chamber urges: Get Address Marker Now!

A Columbia-Adair County Chamber Project is picking up momentum. It was started seven years ago by the Chamber, when, the Chamber, with then President Richard Phelps leading, got the project rolling; now with others joining in to help, it's time to give Adair County a safety and tourism edge

by Sue Stivers, Executive Director, C-AC Chamber of Commerce4

Did you know that an address marker could save your life or the life of someone you know and love? If you do not already have one, you are encouraged to go to the Adair County Sheriff's office 424 Public Square in Columbia and purchase one for the low price of $10. The office is open Monday - Friday from 8:00am to 4:30pmCT.

The reflective sign marker is a project of the Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce which was started 5 years ago. The cost to the Chamber is $9.00 per sign which gives $1.00 profit for the Chamber.

Miracle of the roses: God had a hand in it

About: The Miracle of the Roses

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

Mike's birthdate is May 5, just a few days before Mother's Day. I am the brother who told Margaret her rose would bloom on Mother's Day when she first tranplanted it to her home.

There are so many more incidents with her roses that it is hard to understand - except that God had a hand in it.

The picture is only one of several rose bushes that have a story. Due the the rain, Margaret says they are not pretty now, but when in full bloom they are so beautiful. And she has a story about each one.

An appeal from Sycamore Springs: for specific computer desk

Want to Buy

Cindy Meyer scoured the most major section of the "400 Mile Yard Sale" on US68-all the way from Edmonton to Black Gnat and even from the capitol of Metcalfe County into the village of Glasgow, and back again: Despite cabbaging some great deals, even a bargain mounted deer head, she failed to get find the holy grail of furniture: A small computer desk reasonably priced (Has to hold an antique Gateway computer tower, mammoth 15" monitor, and a printer)

By Cindy Meyer, tired US68 400 mile Yard Sale warrior

I am in need of a compact size computer desk (chair is optional). Although this weekend is the prestigious "400 Mile Yard Sale" on Highway 68 ... alas I have come home short of my goal! Yesterday granddaughter and I traversed Highway 68 from Edmonton to Black Gnat, and came up with nothing. Today my daughter and I covered Edmonton to Glasgow, and back again to no avail. We found only one desk which was close to suitable, but it was a tad too small.
