For Quick Events posting, always include Street and Number

Aside from saving somebody's life, maybe your own, using Street Address with Street Number just plain works best to describe where your event is located

To expedite the posting of Events, please remember to always include the Street Number and address of the venue.

With that one bit of information, ColumbiaMagazine.com readers can quickly find directions to the event from anyplace in the world, quickly and accurately, by smart phone and using Google maps. Regardless of the extent of any other form of directions, nothing matches Street Address with Street Number for finding a venue.

Band needs just $3,030 to reach $100,000 in bank

The Adair County March Band got a lot closer to raising the funds needed to get to the New York City Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade yesterday. The thermometer soared to $96,970 in the bank of the $140,000 goal. $100,000 is in sight. For now:
  • A check or Paypal payment for just $3,030 would put them over $100,000
  • A check or Paypal payment of $239.06 today would the amount which needs to be averaged daily in the next 180 days to meet the goal
  • A check or Paypal payment of $300 would Match the Magistrates
  • A check or Paypal payment of $25 and up can be made in your own name or in honor of a friend, or in memory and will be posted on the AdairBand.com website
The big jump yesterday included the $5,000 donation made by the Adair County Board of Education.

To see all the activity, go to Doyle Lloyd's award winning Adairband.com website. Paypal payments can be made on the site.

The Far Off Broadway Players in Glasgow feel a deep connection with Columbia and Adair County. Our assistant stage manager and props procuror this time is my dear friend, Barbara Pendleton whose wonderful husband John's CPA business is in his hometown of Columbia. One of our players in Dracula attends Lindsey Wilson. Our Newcomers group toured the Trabue House and I am eager to visit Janice Holt Giles home. Thanks for Adair County's support. It is much appreciated.

Getting help for baseball field from Louisville to Iraq

Two chat rooms yield 30 replies of help
About: The Claiborne Analysis Last minute effort will get us

To ColumbiaMagazine.com

I'm doing what I can. I contacted my former church's chat list in Louisville that has a chat list on Yahoo! with 120 members keeping up with one another from Louisville to Iraq and I have received 30 replies that they are hitting the site with daily votes for Columbia. So we are getting some help from Louisville (and two from Iraq); they are pulling for us.

Four Columbia, KY area State Parks get national recognition

What local government and tourism leaders have been saying all along has been affirmed: Columbia, KY, is right in the middle of some of America's top vacation spots. Recent ratings by Reserve America recognized Kentucky State Park sites at Green River Lake, Lake Cumberland, Dale Hollow, and Barren River as among nation's best, and it's part of the strategy for marketing Columbia and Adair County

Special ColumbiaMagazine.com story

Adair County Judge Executive Ann Melton said she was in no way surprised when the Kentucky Department of Tourism reported that ReserveAmerica has recognized the Green River Campground as one of the 100 Top Family Campgrounds in America.

"We've been saying all along that Columbia's central location right in the middle of four great lakes is one of the most under appreciated assets this community has," she said, "I know the Adair County Tourism Board is promoting that idea."

Murder by the Book at Plaza Theatre June 19-21, 2009

Far Off Broadway Players, Glasgow, KY, offer British Comedy
Click on headline for complete story with photos

By Linda Hitchcock

The Far Off Broadway Players present "Murder by the Book" at the historic Plaza Theatre, 115 E. Main St., in downtown Glasgow, KY the weekend of June 19-21, 2009.

This gem of a theater is a short drive down the Louie B. Nunn/Cumberland Parkway.

It's a case of murder he wrote or did she in this sprightly blend of mirth and mayhem. It's a fast paced British comedy with a villainous cast of beautiful women and dapper men who deliver laughter and intrigue with every corkscrew twist of the plot. If you only see one play this year, this is the one that will keep you riveted in your seat and talking about what you saw long after final curtain.
