C-ville Child Development Center wins regional PRIDE award

By Cindy Lackey

The Campbellsville Child Development Center won the region's PRIDE Environmental Education Project of the Month Award for introducing students to camping.

Twenty students in grades K-6, along with parents and staff, pitched tents in Miller Park on June 28. Before rain drove them back to the center, they ate outside, played games and caught bugs. They even learned to paint with dirt, thanks to an activity led by the Taylor County Soil Conservation District. They rounded out their experience back at the center by reading bug books and turning pop bottles into bird feeders.

Feedback: To Steps should be more welcoming

Comment on seeing photo "Steps should be more welcoming business women say"

To ColumbiaMagazine.com

MayI ask where is the eldercare going to be at if all these changes are going on. I have two people in my family that go there and they just love it, and gives them something to look forward to doing each day of their lives. As we get older we still the love and friendship of thers in our lives, just as it is in our younger years of learning. Please let's not give up on our elder's and take away the joys of living and being able to be social and have active lives. Thank you.

s/Dottie March, full time family care giver

Answer: The Eldercare Center would be just where it is if all the changes take place, but with greatly improved accessibility. The request made by the businesswomen was only to improve the stairs across from the Eldercare and could only help the Eldercare Center. I would think you'd applaud their efforts, as we do. They want the stairs widened, made more welcoming, and, perhaps, have a more gentle rise. That should be a great benefit to the Eldercare Center, don't you think? -EW

By Duane Bonifer, LWC Director of Public Affairs

Civil rights, Lincoln and classical music are the major themes of the fall season of the Lindsey Wilson College Arts & Lecture Series.

The fall edition of the annual series offers a wide variety of speakers, writers, activists and musicians - many of which reflect the struggle for civil rights in the United States. The theme of this year's series is "conviction, commitment, social justice and the arts."

"With the 40th anniversary of the death of Martin Luther King Jr. juxtaposed with the celebration of the bicentennial of Abraham Lincoln's birth, we wanted to take this unique opportunity to expose our students and the community to individuals and organizations that have been dedicated to protecting and advancing civil rights," said LWC Library Director Phil Hanna, who is also chair of the arts and lecture series.

Feedback: Frankfort cemetery offers spectacular view

Comment on "Photo: Three views at sunset: 20 minutes of fast scene change"

To ColumbiaMagazine.com

I have been in this cemetery a few times many years ago. It is on a high hill with a spectacular view. Some claim that some of Daniel Boone is buried here but who knows where that frontier explorer finally wound up. - RHS
