THIS PICTURE SHOWING TWO FIREMAN at the fire at a vacant house owned by Ed Streeval. But on first look, for some, the two images morph into an other worldly creature with supernumary limbs. Reflectors on the back of one fireman's helmet seem, on first glance, huge eyes.

Letter is tongue in cheek, writer says

ColumbiaMagazine.com is fattening?

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

I just want to let you know that with all your pictures of food; all your advertisements for the good places to eat, you are contributing to the obesity of anyone who reads this site.

Everytime I log on and see them I have a battle with my mind and my stomach; wish my mind would win more often...

Keep up the good work. Pen, you should really see if Southern Living could use you as a food photographer.

All in good fun...have a great day.

s/Rebecca Grant

Thanks. The photos do make us hungry, too. We appreciate your comments and hope you know that we subscribe to the Neutralization Diet made famous by Adair County Food Guru Bruce Wilson. Enjoy everything: Simply put, his theory is this: You buy out General Nutrition Health foods, then you can neutralizethose with Krispy Kremes.

Lawn mowers warned of hazard around natural gas meters

City Utilities wants incidents reported when meters are damaged; tragedies can result if meters are broken and gas blows from them

To Lawn Care and Mowing Services, Personal Mowers:

Columbia Utilities has recently had several of our natural gas meters hit by lawn mowers. We had one that was hit hard enough that there was a 1" steel pipe broke, which allowed gas to escape.

This incident was not reported by the person that hit the meter, but later by someone walking up the street who heard the gas blowing. A dangerous situation for this home and the surrounding area was created.

Good eating: It would be nice to be adopted by Lora Atchley

Sweet corn preparation doesn't get any fresher than this! It's cooked at the garden!

By Ed Waggener

It would be nice to belong to Lora Atchley. Day before yesterday, she froze 199 bags of sweet corn to share with her children, Lindy Barr, Melissa Bryant, and Shell Leigh.

Mrs. Atchley was assisted in the prodigious task by two hard working grandsons, Colton Barr and Brady Bryant, who got to eat some of the fresh pulled, right out of the garden corn on the cob, boiled on a old wood cookstove set up outside for occasions like this.

Letter: Qualifications for subsitute teachers?

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

I am interested in knowing the qualifications for substitute teachers at the elementary school in Columbia. I have been a substitute teacher in Gwinnett County, Georgia, since 2000. I taught English to adults while stationed in Ankara, Turkey. Substituted in middle school in Temple Terrace, Florida. I enjoy teaching ESOL, ESL or whatever it is being called this year. I have taught K-8 in Georgia but I prefer first and second grades.s/Charles Marshburn

Interesting question. We'll get the answer and post it soon. -CM
