City should have sidewalk bids ready in August 2008 By Ed Waggener City Clerk Carolyn Edwards, in answer to an inquiry, said that the long-awaited sidewalks to the Adair County Schools Campus should be ready to advertise sometime in August, 2008. Earlier, Mayor Bell had indicated that the sidewalks would be ready for school opening for 2008-2009. Construction of the sidewalks was made possible through a state grant through a program aimed at improving children's health by having more of them walk or bike to school. Sidewalk construction fits nicely with the Columbia Rotary Club's "Walk Around the World" fitness program. A sidewalk on the east side of Jamestown Street, from Miller Avenue to Russell Road, is not in the package to be let in August, Clerk Edwards said. That construction was proposed by Councillor Edwin Taylor and Mayor Bell indicated that it might be forthcoming, but has had no subsequent pronouncements on the subject.
