Chat list set up for Adair SCC students to share rides

Individual students can use chat room to find out who has similar schedules, at Somerset Community College, to help form gas saving carpools

By D.W. Swanner

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/AdairGasSaversToSCC

This group is for the people of Adair County who attend Somerset Community College to find carpooling partners to school. In this day and age of higher fuel prices sharing a ride may mean the difference of gaining a degree or dropping out.

The moderator of the group does not assign people to carpools, but allows free discussion on the chat list for people with like schedules to come up with plans to either carpool or form some other means of transportation to SCC, any campus.

"The Elephant in the Room"

We see it. We sense its presence. We walk around it. But elephants don't belong in rooms; so we don't talk about it, though the floor joists creak and it sits in the only chair.

Reader says lack of public support for horse show is a shame

LETTERS & FEEDBACK

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

We went to the fair tonight to watch the horse show. There were more horses than people. No wonder the powers that be can't offer several nights of horse shows like they did in the 60's - not enough people come to support it.

I guess if the track is not filled with gasoline fumes and makes so much noise people have to or at least should wear ear plugs, the majority of our good citizens aren't interested. This is a shame. I know we will probably never be able to go back to the days when we had beautiful standard breed horses, 3 gaited horses, etc. That, like many other good things, has gone.
