Comment: Exec Director, Mayor forget this is graphics arts town This is not a plea for Protectionism. Or to keep outside firms from doing business here. It is not aimed at anyone. Pat and Sue friends; they are great leaders. They both do a lot of good. But they are wrong when they endorse outside firms who take business away from local companies without first giving local firms, who can do the same work better and likely at lower cost, a chance. Maybe, having come from working for governments all their lives, they just don't understand how hard it is for small Columbia businesses to make it. The issue is important: tax and dues dollars are involved here Commentary by Ralph Waggener President, South Central Printing, Inc., and Editor and Publisher of Just for a Smile News On the issue of the graphics arts industry in Columbia: No, we don't seem to get much respect. No place she would rather be than Old Concord UMC Values that can still found at country church By Jo Anna Harris As my husband and I sat back and took in the family like atmosphere Saturday during Bible school, I could not think of a single place that I would have rather been because of the laughter of the children and the feeling of being with family. Everyone there had a great time and had to of recieved a blessing as well. It does my heart good to know that my children are attending a good country church where all they have to do is be themselves. At Old Concord they don't have to keep up with who has what and that lets everyone set back and enjoy a good ol' sermon that comes straight from the Bible. On Sunday mornings that little country church is packed full of good people. In my heart I know that I am doing the right thing for my children by teaching them the values that can still be found at a country church. 2008-06-30 09:55:26 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Commentary

Letter: Why no pictures of cicada eggs effects on trees? Big element of major, and rare, work of nature needs photographic documentation Hey, Ed, I've been surprised that not one of the local paparazzi who doggedly pursue nature rather than celebrities has documented the results of the egg laying cicadas. Everywhere I look I see the tips of limbs of many different hardwood tree turning brown, dieing, and falling to the ground. We will not be seeing this work of nature again for seventeen years. Although the evidence of the cicadas reproductive process can be seen about everywhere there are hardwood trees, one place I have seen it extremely visible is down the fence row in front of David Sandusky's home looking Southeast toward Bruce and Patsy Wilson's home. If you drive down a wooded country road you will notice that some of the egg-ladened twigs are beginning to fall to the ground. s/Billy Joe Fudge 2008-06-30 02:28:37 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Letters and Reader Feedback
