Obituary: Delphus Frankum, 77, retired farmer, Fairplay

Mr. Frankum was as member of the Columbia church of Christ and of a respected South Adair County family. He was a retired farmer and former Stotts-Phelps-McQueary employee

Delphus Frankum, age 77 years, of 3205 South Johnson Schoolhouse Road, Columbia, KY (the Fairplay Community), passed away Sunday, June 29, 2008 at 8:10pm at the Audubon Hospital in Louisville, KY, after several days illness.

The funeral service will be Thursday, July 3, 2008 at 2:00pmCT at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Dean Roach the officiating clergy.


He was born July 8, 1930, the son of the late Martin Lee and Mary Ethel Loy Frankum of Adair County, KY.

He is survived by the following:
  • Two daughters: Charlotte Upchurch and husband Mark, and Lisa Aaron and husband Terry, all of Fairplay, KY

  • His former wife: Virginia Gadberry, Fairplay, KY

  • two sisters: Helen Thomas of Cox's Creek, KY; and Lena Wheatley of Madisonville, KY

  • Four grandchildren: Jarrod Willis, Karren Jo Upchurch, T.J. Aaron,Jordon Aaron

  • Three step-grandchildren: Jimmy Cobler, Jason and Joshua Upchurch

  • Two great grandchildren: Trevor Willis and Jayden Willis>

  • And by host of other relatives and friends
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Karen Frankum, on July 13, 1995; and by three grandchildren:# Lindsey Brook Aaron, Jeremy James Bryant and Amy Jo Bryant. He was preceded in death by one sister, Doris Kassem, and by five brothers, Robert Ores Frankum, Buell Hogard Frankum, Samuel Elbert Frankum, Luther Owen Frankum, and William Paul Frankum.

Delphus was a member of Columbia church of Christ, a farmer and a former employee of Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home in Columbia, KY.

Interment in the Frankum Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 4:00pmCT, Wednesday, July 2, 2008, at Stotts-Phelps-McQuearyFuneral Home, 210 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY.Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home in charge of funeral arrangements.
