Planning & Zoning meeting quickly approves four measures

P&Z approves zoning change for 303 Burkesville Street; Franklin Street site plan approved along with name change to "Don Franklin Street" in Holladay Place; approves site plan for Marketplace Development's new Holladay Place Strip Center; and approves final site plan for Newcomb Oil store at corner of KY 61 and Wal-Mart Drive

In a fast paced session, presided over by Chairman Joseph Flowers, the Columbia Planning & Zoning Board quickly approved a zoning change for 303 Burkesville ST and three plans in Holladay Place.

The board approved a Zone change from R-4, High Density Residential to C-1, Downtown Commercial for 303 Burkesville ST. Dr. Max Downey said the property will be used to add parking for his Downey Eye Clinic, which adjoins the property.

Obituary: Nancy Ruth Royse Royalty, 83, Adair native

She was a member of an old-line, highly respected Adair County family

Nancy Ruth Royse Royalty, 83, widow of George W. Royalty, died Thursday, June 12, 208, at the Christian Care Center in Lancaster, KY.

A native of Adair County, she was the daughter of the late Baruch and Mollie Morris Royse, a member of Burgin Baptist Church, the Pioneer Hoomemakers, and was a volunteer at the Christian Life Center for many years.

Scholarship is named in honor of William K. Pennebaker

Campbellsville University's School of Education recognized and honored the recipients of the Pennebaker Scholarship Award with a recent reception.

Graduate students in the Master of Arts in Education (MAE) program who met the scholarship criteria were Angela Henderson and Rebecca Pinson, both of Campbellsville.

Metcalfe unit of Salvation Army can send 20 kids to camp, free

The Metcalfe County Service Unit of the Salvation Army can send up to 20 kids ages 7 to 12 to Summer Camp, at no charge, at Camp Paradise located at Dale Hollow Lake during the week on July 14th-19th.Transportation to and from camp provided as well as necessary items such as toiletries, towels, some clothing, etc. can be provided. There will be a meeting for interested parents tonight, Thursday, June 12, 2008, at the Metcalfe County Health Department, Stockton ST, Edmonton, KY at 5:00pm CT.

USDA accepting Wildlife Habitat Incentives Program applications

WHIP applications may be made to in Columbia Natural Resources Conservation Service office; or with KY Fish & Wildlife, ResourcesBy Jason Stephens

USDA's Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is accepting applications for the Wildlife Habitat Incentives Program (WHIP) signup. Landowners may apply for WHIP at any time however; applications received by June 27, 2008, will be evaluated and considered for the 2008 program year.

Applications received after that date will be held until the next evaluation period.

Pottery workshops for kids at The Giles House

There will be pottery workshops at the Giles House, Spout Springs Road off KY 76 (Elkhorn Road), Knifley, KY on Saturday, June 28, 2008 from 10am to 12noonCT and 1:00pmCT to 3:00pmCT.

The classes are for young people ages 7 to 12 years of age. The instructors will be Jeff and Henrietta Scott and Donnie Perry.

The Adair County Fiscal Court awarded bids at the Tuesday, June 10, 2008, meeting, but not all votes were unanimous.

The Adair County Animal Hospital was awarded the contract for veterinary services and pharmaceuticals at the Green River Animal Shelter. Bids were received from Green River Veterinary Clinic in Campbellsville and Coffey's Veternary Service in Columbia.

Tabernacle Christian VBS is Saturday, June 28, 2008

Tabernacle Christian Church, located at 13175 Liberty Road; Columbia, KY, will be having a "one day" VBS on Saturday, June 28, 2008. Theme will be "Team Up With Jesus" and there will be classes for all ages. VBS will start at 9:00amCT.
