Obituary: Exuria Burton Goodin, 97

Mrs. Goodin was a member of a highly respected mercantile family of Pellyton and Ella, and a former grocery merchant herself; a member of the New Hope Baptist Church, and was the head of a large family. She leaves 60 direct living descendants

Exuria Burton Goodin, 97, a resident of Summit Manor Health & Rehab, formerly of 9937 Liberty Road, Columbia, KY, passed away Thursday, June 12, 2008, at 5:25amCT, at Summit Manor Health & Rehab in Columbia, KY.



The funeral service will be Saturday, June 14, 2008, at 11:00amCT, at New Hope Separate Church, with Bro. David Coffey the officiating clergy.

She was born May 21, 1911, the daughter of the late Wesley and Lucretia McQueary Burton and the widow of Lawrence Goodin, who preceded her in death May 20, 1996.
She is survived by the following:
  • Three daughters: Lucille Lemmon, Columbia, KY; Mary Lou Davis and her husband Clifford, Cincinnati, OH; and Wanda McGaha, Columbus, IN

  • Four sons: Leemon Goodin of Barnett's Creek Road, Columbia, KY; Lowell Goodin and his wife, Judith, Columbia, KY; Charles Goodin and Danny Wayne Goodin and his wife Denise of Columbus, IN

  • Three sisters: Fay Cowan and Beulah Sinclair of Franklin, IN; and Barbara Pendleton, Edinburgh, IN

  • Two brothers: Buford Burton and Clayton Burton, Edinburgh, IN

  • Two sisters in law: Agnes Burton, Columbia, KY; and LIbby Burton, Edinburgh, IN

  • Sixteen grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, and five great grandchildren

  • And several nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends
She was preceded in Death by a son in law, Carl Lemmon, and three brothers, Van, Lester, and Clay Burton, and two sisters, Millie Burton and Mildred Burton.

She was a member of New Hope Separate Baptist Church, a former Grocery Merchant in the Pellyton and Ella communities, and a homemaker.

Expressions of sympathy ay take the form of a donation to the New Hope Separate Baptist Church Building Fund or the Bearwallow Cemetery and may be made at the funeral home.

Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements.Visitation is after 4:30pmCT, Friday and after 6:00amCT on Saturday, May 14, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY, and after 10:00amCT Saturday, June 14, 2008, at the church, located 11 miles from Columbia on KY 206.
