Nominations being accepted for Spirit of Kentucky Award

Opportunity for Community acknowledged as Most Enthusiastic about itself?

The Governor's Office for Local Development (GOLD) is now accepting online nominations for the fifth annual Commissioner's Spirit of Kentucky award. The award is presented to the sponsor(s) of a public project that best demonstrates an innovative expression of multi-jurisdictional cooperation and cost effective use of resources.

"Our Spirit of Kentucky award singles out just one of many great collaborative public service efforts in our communities across Kentucky," explains GOLD Commissioner Tony Wilder. "We take great pride in recognizing a significant, innovative project that not only makes a real difference for local citizens, but also embodies the spirit of true partnership."

Adair County Water Plant dedication will be major affair

An event worthy of the importance of the Adair County Water Treatment plant is planned for its' dedication starting at 11:00amCT, on Friday, May 30, 2008.

The dedication plans started out with plans for 100-150 to be in attendance, but now the organizers expect the crowd to grow to 250 to 300 or more.

The date was selected to make sure United States Senator Mitch McConnell, whose help in securing funds for the plant was so crucial, could be at the dedication.

Senator McConnell will be one of the speakers at the event, which will be emceed by Adair Countian Hilda Gay Legg.

Lindsey Wilson Men lose to Savannah in 2nd round

MOBILE, Ala. -- The Lindsey Wilson College mens tennis teams season ended with a 5-3 loss to Savannah College of Art & Design (GA) in the NAIA National Tournament today at the Mobile Tennis Center.

SCAD advances to the national quarterfinals where they will face No. 2 seed Embry-Riddle (Fla.) University at 1 p.m. CT on Wednesday.

Secretary Hindman: Adair most enthusiastic place he's visited

Secretary John Hindman lauds Columbia-Adair County enthusiasm for place. Encourages having strategic plan, greater stress on education and communications between economic development, educational forces; stresses tourism as forerunner to economic development. Secretary Hindman says community may find greatest opportunity because of location important north-south transportation hub.

"I've travelled to towns all over Kentucky," Secretary of Economic Development John Hindman, said, "and I've seen a lot of enthusiasm in all of the towns. But I have to say this, "You are the most enthusiastic about the place you live than anywhere I've been." That, he said, could make the difference in economic development.

He was also impressed with the projects and energy going on in Columbia, in the public, private, and educational sectors. "He told us," former Judge Richard Lee Walker said, "that he thought there was more activity, for our size, in Adair County than any place he had been."

LWC Women's Tennis team advance to national quarterfinals

Raider Women win 6-0 over Union (KY) in Mobile Tennis Center

The Lindsey Wilson College women's tennis team advanced into the national quarterfinals today with a 6-0 win over Union (KY) College at the Mobile Tennis Center.

The third-seeded Blue Raiders face No. 6-seed California Baptist University -- who beat unseeded Cumberland (TN) University 5-4 -- at 9amCT on Wednesday in the NAIA National Championship quarterfinals.

Junior Beta Club visits Diane Sawyer, GMA, in NYC

The Junior Beta Club of Adair County Middle School is in the "Big Apple," since Saturday, May 10, 2008.

They visited the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, a Broadway play, and were even in the studio of Good Morning America Monday Morning, May 12, 2008. They met fellow Kentuckian Diane Sawyer, and Jimmy Kimmel, Mario Lopez, Lance Armstrong, Chris Cuomo, and Robin Robets.

GMA's tight programming limited their air time, but it was an exciting once in a lifetime event for these kids. Everyone on the trip is having a blast, even the adults.

Lindsey Wilson College will hold an unprecedented three ground-breaking ceremonies on one day to begin a $12 million expansion program.

The ground-breaking ceremonies will be held on Monday, May 19, 2008 The public is invited to all three ceremonies.

32 Adair Co. graduates, 2008 LWC Spring commencement

Thirty-two Adair Countians received degrees at graduation exercises at Lindsey Wilson College this year. They were among 163 students receiving degrees in the 2008 Spring Commencement, Saturday, May 10, 2008, at Biggers Sports Arena.

A total of 151 undergraduates received degrees, along with 12 masters level recipients.

Together with the Winter graduates during the term, Lindsey Wilson College, with 412 receiving degrees, had the largest graduating class in its history.
