Adair County Water Plant dedication will be major affair By Ed Waggener An event worthy of the importance of the Adair County Water Treatment plant is planned for its' dedication starting at 11:00amCT, on Friday, May 30, 2008. The dedication plans started out with plans for 100-150 to be in attendance, but now the organizers expect the crowd to grow to 250 to 300 or more. The date was selected to make sure United States Senator Mitch McConnell, whose help in securing funds for the plant was so crucial, could be at the dedication. Senator McConnell will be one of the speakers at the event, which will be emceed by Adair Countian Hilda Gay Legg. The event will begin with a barbecue cookout. The meal will be catered by Paula Miller, with John Johnson preparing the barbecue. Welcoming remarks will be made by Rudy Higginbotham, Chairman of the Columbia/Adair County Water Commission. Adair County Judge Executive Ann Melton, Mayor Pat Bell, and Kenneth Slone, State Director of the USDA Rural Development Administration will also speak. Besides Senator McConnell and Hilda Legg, other special guests will be Senator Vernie McGaha and Representative Russ Mobley. A number of sponsors are footing the tab on the event, including the Columbia Utilities Commission Commission, Adair County Water District, Monarch Engineering, Bank of Columbia, First & Farmers National Bank, United Citizens Bank, Community Trust Bank, Thermodyne, Brenntag, Smith Contractors, Pyles Concrete, Burton Stone, HD Supply, and the Columbia Adair County Water District. Already, over $6,000 has been committed, and the amount could rise to as much as $10,000. Paving around the new plant, located at 555 Griffin Springs Road, Campbellsville, KY, has been completed. At last week's meeting of the water commission, Lenny Stone, manager of the plant, said that the only hold up on getting Griffith Springs Road Blacktopped depended on making sure everything would meet Taylor County Fiscal Court specifications for inclusion in the Taylor County Roads system after the blacktopping is done. Members of the board of commissioners of the water treatment plant are Chairman Rudy Higginbotham, Junior Brown, Robert Flowers, Larry Legg, and June Parson.
