RALPH WAGGENER, PRESIDENT OF SOUTH CENTRAL PRINTING Columbia, KY, was named the April "Recycler of the Month," by Adair County Judge Ann Melton, Adair County Fiscal Court, and Adair County Solid Waste Coordinator A.L. Sinclair, right, who made the presentation. "South Central Printing has been a recycler since the start of the program," Coordinator Sinclair said. "They do a wonderful job for us." South Central Printing is the third recipient of the prestigious award. Other winners are Donna Hancock and the Adair Progress, and Stephanie Long, who accepted the award on behalf of the Adair Food Pantry. The presentation was made at the Monday, April 14, 2008, special regular meeting of Adair Fiscal Court.

Bray Earns Mid-South Conference Honors

COLUMBIA, KY -- Lindsey Wilson College junior outfielder Nathan Bray has been named Mid-South Conference Player of the Week for the week ending April 13, 2008 according to the conference.

Bray, a Somerset, KY, native, hit .483 (14-for-29) on the week helping the Blue Raiders to a 4-4 week.

LWC women's golf team wins Brescia Spring Invitational

OWENSBORO, KY -- The Lindsey Wilson College women's golf team captured the Brescia (KY) University Spring Invitational today at Ben Hawes State Park.

The Blue Raiders shot a spring-low 309 today to win their third tournament of the spring and sixth of the season. Lindsey Wilson finished with a two-day total of 630 (321-309) to beat its nearest competitor by 57 strokes.

Leigh Ann Moore is MSC softball pitcher of the week

Lindsey Wilson College senior Leigh Ann Moore has been named Mid-South Conference pitcher of the week for the week ending April 13, 2008, according to the conference.

Moore won three games last week helping the Blue Raiders to a perfect 6-0 week. Lindsey Wilson is 25-14 on the season.

Summit Manor Relay 4 Life Team yard sale, Sat., April 18, 2008

The Summit Manor Relay for Life Team is having a yard sale. Saturday, April 19, 2008 at 8amCT to ? ? in the front parking lot of Summit Manor, 400 Bomar Heights, Columbia, KY. The yard sale will be held in the front lobby if it rains. Also, there will be a drawing for a hand-made, double wedding ring quilt. Tickets are $1.00 each or six for $5.00. Tickets can be purchased and the quilt can be viewed at the yard sale. Drawing for the quilt will be held the night of the relay. All proceeds will go to Relay for Life. KSP aircraft finds missing Marion Co. man, deceased

POLICE REPORTS

Update: Robert Michael Angell has been located by the Kentucky State Police Aircraft Section in a wooded area off Dry Fork Road, 14 miles West of Lebanon. Angell was pronounced deceased by the Marion County Coroner at 7:30pmET. The investigation continues by the Kentucky State Police which is being assisted by the Marion County Sheriffs Department. No foul play suspected.

Earlier report

Kentucky State Police aircraft had joined the search for Robert "Buddy" Angel today, after Marion County Fire and Rescue, as well as Disaster and Emergency Services were unable to find him after over a day searching.

Kentucky State Police Post 15, Columbia, KY, received a call that Robert Bobby Angel, 49, had been missing for almost 24 hours. That call came on Sunday April 13, 2008 approximately 8:21amCT.

Ride honors Rex. L. Coffey, benefits the 2008 Relay for Life

The 2nd Annual Rex L. Coffey Memorial Charity Ride will be April 26, 2008, with a May 3, 2008 rain date.

The ride benefits the Relay for Life. Last year, the ride raised over $800 for the Adair County Relay for life. "We hope to do as well this year," Dean Roach, one of the organizers, said.

CU marks 16 straight semesters of record enrollment

Elated Campbellsville Univesity President Dr. Michael V. Carter says it's quite an achievement

Campbellsville University is ahead of last spring's enrollment and it is looking at 16 semesters of record enrollment. The numbers are up almost four percent from last year.

Of the 2,303 students enrolled for the spring semester, almost 65 percent of those were full-time degree-seeking undergraduates.

Breeding AVFD cleans 7 miles of South Adair County roads

The Breeding Area Volunteer Fire Department cleaned nine miles of community roads on Saturday, April 12, 2008, as part of the AC PRIDE 2008 Clean-up day.

The seven miles are included in the 66.5 miles of county roads tabulated by Adair County CJE office.

Nine members, including Brandon Harvey, Chief Terry Harvey, Tony Harvey, Brenda Harvey, Jerry Elliot, Ed Wigal, Brandon Elliott, Donna McCullough, and Adam Grider participated in the cleanup.

The group covered Toria Road, KY 61 through Breeding, and the Breeding Loop, the main street through the historic district of Breeding.

Sinclair, and Co-PRIDE Coordinator Lisa Lee, would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who helped in any way from giving donations to volunteering their time to make "Take PRIDE in Adair County Clean-up Day: such a huge success.

This was the biggest turnout ever seen for a cleanup day in Adair County and probably several other counties.

    The Janice Holt and Henry Giles Foundation President Clara Metzmeier,reluctantly accepted files from Susan Lewis, who will be movingout of the area and will be unable to continue her duties on the workingboard of the Giles Society.

    For the past year Susan has lived and worked in Knifley and herwork at the Giles House will be missed.

    Thomas Lincoln/Nancy Hanks marriage will be reenacted

    "Dearly Beloved: The Vows of a Lincoln Legacy" takes place June 14, 2008, at Lincoln Homestead State Park near Springfield

    Thomas Lincoln and Nancy Hanks were married on June 12, 1806 near Springfield, KY. On June 14, 2008, Lincoln Homestead State Park will stage a play with period music, dancing and other reenactments to mark the anniversary of the wedding of Abraham Lincoln's parents more than two centuries ago.

    The Lincoln-Hanks Wedding Anniversary Celebration will feature the outdoor drama "Dearly Beloved: The Vows of a Lincoln Legacy," which recreates the 1806 wedding ceremony, while costumed interpreters will portray Isaac Shelby, Kentucky's first governor, Dr. Thomas Walker, Kentucky pioneer settler, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and other historical figures.

Jones, Field Representative for the KY Dept of Veterans Affairs, will be available to assist veterans in Adair County at the Courthouse Annex in Columbia every second Monday from 01:00pm through 03:00 pm. Veterans and their families will be provided counseling and assistance in filing claims for state and federal benefits.This is a free service provided by the state of Kentucky. Veterans should bring a copy of their DD214 (record of military service) with them, if they have it, and any other documents they feel could help with their claim.
