Obituary: Clara Helen Scott, 86

Mrs. Scott was a member of a respected south Adair County family, a homemaker, and a member of the Breeding United Methodist Church

OBITUARIES

Clara Helen Scott, 86, a resident of Summit Manor Health & Rehab Center, formerly of the Sparksville Community, passed away Sunday, March 9, 2008, at 10:16amCT at Westlake Regional Hospital after several weeks illness.

The funeral service will be Tuesday, March 11, 2008, at 11:00amCT at Stotts-Phelps McQueary Funeral Home with Rev. Ronnie Dooley and John Kohlman officiating.

Bread, milk sold out, because of storm, they say

According to a report sent us from a coffee session this morning, milk and bread were sold out, because of the snow storm, at the two supermarkets yesterday, Saturday, March 8, 2008, at 3:15pm.

At 3:31pm, yesterday, they say, milk and bread was sold out in all the smaller groceries and convenience stores around Adair County.

At 3:47pm, yesterday the drug stores were out of Viagra.

According to what they said, Adair County can expect a baby boom nine months from today.

LWC Womens Basketball beats CU 75-68 in MSC semi-finals

PIKEVILLE, KY - In a game of runs, the Lindsey Wilson College women's basketball team used an 11-5 run to close today's Mid-South Conference Tournament semifinals and beat Campbellsville (KY) University 75-68.

Lindsey Wilson advances to Monday's 10amCT title game at the Eastern Kentucky Exposition Center.

There will be school in Adair County Monday, March 10, 2008

There will be school in Adair County on Monday, March 10, 2008, Adair County School District Director of Student Transportation David Jones announced at 3:26pm, Sunday, March 9, 2008.

"Unless there is additional snow or other new development," he said, "school busses will roll in the morning as usual."

Busses will run on the regular schedule, he said. Announcements of school closings are posted on ColumbiaMagazine.com and are announced on Columbia radio stations.

CPD makes crack cocaine arrest Saturday, March 8, 2008

On Saturday, March 8, 2008, at approximately 6:00pmCT, Finis Milby, 47, Columbia, KY, was arrested on Burkesville ST, Columbia, after a traffic stop. He was charged with possession of a controlled substance, 1st degree (crack cocaine). Milby was lodged in the Adair County Jail by Columbia Police Officers Brad Scholl and Terry Flatt. -SGT JASON CROSS

The Supreme Court is often dividing four-four -- liberal-conservative. Justice Brian Howell, clearly the swing vote, has suffered a stroke, certain to be fatal.

Four cases are before the court. The justices are divided or are perceived to be divided on all four. A quick appointment is deemed politically necessary by the President, for one affects him directly.

Calls come in over span of just 18 hours

First: 2:07pmCT, Saturday, March 8, 2008: 365 Wheet Road, off of KY E-80.To residence occupied by Mary Stephens. There was an electrical fire in the attic with minimal damage. Ten (10) firemen were on the scene for around 35 minutes.

Well it happened! (Sorta, Almost).

You'll collect that yestiday I requested help gitting Miz Emily up on the roof to push off the snow afore hit come crashing down on us.

Never was able to convince her and last night during several trips back to the house from the privy I could hear that ole roof creakin and moanin. I'd look up and see that mountain of snow just sittin up thar grinnin at me.

Paper or Plastic?

In the argument over paper or plastic bags its clear that plastic is winning at the retail level. I cant think of a single store that doesnt use plastic bags.

So, which is better for the environment? Neither! The fact is that the difference between paper and plastic recycling is small compared with reusing bags.

Road Eighty Bridge construction milestone: 23 weeks

Today marks the end of the 23rd week since construction started on the Road Eighty Bridge over Russell Creek on KY 80 East of Columbia. The bridge has now been closed for 161 days, since Monday, October 1, 2007.
