LWC Womens Basketball beats CU 75-68 in MSC semi-finals By Chris Wells, Lindsey Wilson Sports Information Director PIKEVILLE, KY - In a game of runs, the Lindsey Wilson College women's basketball team used an 11-5 run to close today's Mid-South Conference Tournament semifinals and beat Campbellsville (KY) University 75-68. Lindsey Wilson advances to Monday's 10amCT title game at the Eastern Kentucky Exposition Center. After trailing by as many as eight points in the first half, the top-seeded Blue Raiders tied the game for the first time at 28-28 with 5:52 left. Lindsey Wilson continued its run and led at the break 40-33. Out of the locker room, Lindsey Wilson extended its lead to 15 points (51-36) five minutes into the half. But the Lady Tigers, needing a win to extend their season, used the next six minutes to erase the Lindsey Wilson lead and tie the game at 55-55 with 8:03 remaining. Over the next three minutes Lindsey Wilson and Campbellsville (19-13) exchanged baskets and were tied at 64-64 with 5:20 left. Down the stretch the Lindsey Wilson experience took over. Lindsey Wilson seniors Moneta Anderson and Kara Osterfeld scored eight straight points to give the Blue Raiders a 72-64 advantage with just under two minutes left. Anderson finished with 12 points off the Blue Raider bench, while Osterfeld scored a game-high 16 points. Osterfeld also pulled down nine rebounds. A pair of free throws by Campbellsville senior Priscila Alves briefly halted the Lindsey Wilson run and cut the Lady Tiger deficit to six. Alves finished with 12 points. But the Lindsey Wilson senior backcourt of Krystal Jackson and Kera Gibson secured the win with three of four free throw shooting inside the final minute pushing the lead back to nine (75-66). A meaningless basket by Campbellsville freshman Alexia Williams with 2.1 seconds left capped the scoring as the Lindsey Wilson ended the Lady Tigers season with the 75-68 win. Lindsey Wilson finished the game dominating the glass, out-rebounding the Lady Tigers 49-29. The Blue Raiders finished with 23 offensive boards which resulted in 23 second chance points. Freshman Viktoria Krell led the Blue Raiders with 13 rebounds while adding 12 points for her league-leading ninth double-double of the season. Senior Terran Duncan just missed a double-double finishing with 15 points and nine rebounds. Campbellsville senior Jenna Hedges led the Lady Tigers with 14 points. Freshman Courtney Danis ended with 12 points and sophomore Kristi Ensminger added 11. Lindsey Wilson makes its second straight trip to the MSC championship game with the win. The Blue Raiders lost to West Virginia Tech last season. The Blue Raiders advanced to Monday morning's title game. Lindsey Wilson, the tournament's No. 1 seed, will play No. 3-seed Georgetown (KY) College at 10amCT in the Eastern Kentucky Exposition Center in Pikeville, Ky. Georgetown advanced to the finals by defeating No. 2-seed University of the Cumberlands (KY) 66-63. Georgetown beat Lindsey Wilson in both regular-season games.
