Fire destroys vacant house on Allen Schoolhouse Rd, Sun. AM

The Adair County Fire Department responded to a vacant house fire on Sunday morning, February 3, 2008, at 3320 Allen Schoolhouse Rd, in Adair Co.

Upon firefighters arrival the house was totally engulfed in flames and was a total loss.

Delores Stapleton, the owner of the house, said that it was used for storage.

Jessy has a reason to grieve, though her life was saved

JESSY the purebred boxer, was saved from the flames. She was in a kennel next to the burning house at 3320 Allen Schoolhouse Road, but was moved in time to save her life. Four of her expected litter of 11 puppies, born just minutes before, perished in the blaze. She was kept safely away from the fire, in a car, while Adair County firemen fought the fire.

Austin Kendrick Booher, 80, 205 Hurt ST, Columbia, KY, died Saturday, February 2, 2008, at 7:27am, at Bowling Green Medical Center.

The funeral service will be Tuesday, February 5, 2008, at 2:00pmCT, at Grissom Martin Funeral Home wth Bro. Darrell Karnes, Bro. Lonny Karnes, and Bro. William Karnes officiating. Burial will be in the Columbia Cemetery.

ACHS Academic team wins District 16 third year in row!

Future Problem Solving Champions for Third Straight Year. Team advances to Regionals at Russell County on February 23, 2008. Ryan Montgomery 1st in Composition. The ACHS Academic Team won the Governor's Cup District Championship for the third year in a row on Saturday, February 2, 2008.

Adair County had an overall score of 53.5, followed by No. 2 Green County High School with 48.5, No. 3. Russell County with 18.00, and Casey County High, 2 points.

Duncan, Krell lead LWC Women to 91-72 rout of WVA Tech

The inside duo of Lindsey Wilson College senior center Terran Duncan and freshman forward Viktoria Krell produced 50 points and 19 rebounds as the Blue Raiders beat visiting West Virginia Tech University 91-72 on Saturday, February 2, 2008, at Biggers Sports Center.

Duncan, an Edmonton, KY native, followed her 29-point performance at Campbellsville on Thursday night, January 31, 2008, with 22 points and nine rebounds as the Blue Raiders won their seventh straight game.

Ceasar paces LWC Mens Basketball to 74-65 win over WVA Tech

Lindsey Wilson senior reserve Marcus Ceasar recorded a career-high and his first double-double of the season to lead the Lindsey Wilson College mens basketball team to a 74-65 win over visiting West Virginia Tech University on Saturday, February 2, 2008, at Biggers Sports Center.

Cearsar scored 20 points and grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds to help the Blue Raiders improve to 14-8 overall and 2-1 in the Mid-South Conference.

Campbellsville native and U. of KY graduate J.B. Holmes is in sole possession of first place after three rounds of the FBR P.G.A. golf tournament.

J.B. won this tournament two years ago as a rookie P.G.A. professional. The winner of this tournament will take home $1,080,000.Good luck to a great ambassador of this area!

Pedestrian airlifted to UK after being struck while refueling

POLICE REPORTS

A driver who was putting fuel in his vehicle was struck by a passing vehicle at around noon Saturday, February 2, 2008, two miles north of Albany on US 127.

Donald Godby, 55, Burkesville, KY, was airlifted from the scene to the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington.

Godby was putting gasoline in his 1991 Ford Pickup on the southside side of US 127 when he was struck by a northbound 1996 Chevy operated by Calvin Antle, 50, Albany, KY.

WWII combat veterans offered a free trip to Washington D.C.

Youngest of the World War II veterans are now 85 years old; group hopes to help as many as possible see WWII Memorial

The VFW is offering a free trip to the World War II memorialfor all combat veterans from that war. The program called Honor Flight offers a one day tripto see the memorial on a first come, first serve basis.
