Circle R down, Jan. 1, 2008

2008-01-01 - Russell Road, Columbia, KY - Photo By Ed Waggener.
"IT WAS JUST BEYOND SAVING," Michael L. Stephens, the new owner of the Circle R property said. This was the state of the landmark property on January 1, 2008, when Mr. Stephens was contacted. "We looked at it," he said, "but it was simply beyond repair." That doesn't mean that there may not be a new Circle R rise again on the site. "The Circle R name is one of the most recognized brands in several states. People want the kind of food they served there," he said. "We may be able to bring it back." But for now, the goal is to clean the site up and make it ready for its next use. The Circle R was gutted by a Monday evening, July 9, 2007 fire. Click here to read the earlier story. COLUMBIAMAGAZINE.COM LETTERS & FEEDBACK
Response to:"It is time to develop all of Kentucky to its potential," by Ralph Waggener

To Ralph Waggener c/o ColumbiaMagazine.com:

Ralph, excellent article. While I am unfamilar with the project, anthing that opens these areas up is a plus. Your comment about the C-J was correct.

They think selling newspapers is based on negative reporting

Feedback: Heartland Parkway advocate supports I-66 story

COLUMBIAMAGAZINE.COM LETTERS & FEEDBACK
Response to:"It is time to develop all of Kentucky to its potential," by Ralph Waggener

To Ralph Waggener c/o ColumbiaMagazine.com:

Please extend my congratulations to Ralph Waggener on his article regarding the Courier-Journal's recent attacks on the proposed I-66 interstate. I am in agreement with Ralph's comments in many regards, including the fact that the CJ is generally biased toward rural Kentucky in general and our region in particular. The only time they cover events in our part of the Commonwealth is when there is a tragedy or otherwise negative news. There is an arrogance on the paper's part, and it has long been evident.

Feedback: Amen to Ralph's article on Courier-Journal, I-66

COLUMBIAMAGAZINE.COM LETTERS & FEEDBACK
Response to:"It is time to develop all of Kentucky to its potential," by Ralph Waggener

To Ralph Waggener c/o ColumbiaMagazine.com:

Amen! It has long seemed to me that Louisville would rather be part of some other state except perhaps at Derby time. CJ reporting and articles don' bother to reach much beyond Jefferson County, except of course when they want to point out something "wrong" elsewhere.

Feedback: Thanks for the history lesson, Ralph

COLUMBIAMAGAZINE.COM LETTERS & FEEDBACK
Response to:"It is time to develop all of Kentucky to its potential," by Ralph Waggener

To Ralph Waggener c/o ColumbiaMagazine.com:

Many thanks for the history lesson, Ralph. I too wondered why the C-J writer took the strong stance he did and I think you gave a lucid and plausible explanation (or exposition).

I also remember the early days of what is now I-65 as I traveled extensively in the late 50's thru mid 60's between Montgomery, AL, and Ft. Wayne, IN. However, I was ignorant of some of the historical and political background you provided.
