Walk-in flu shot clinic Friday, December 8, 2006

A walk-in flu shot clinic will be held on Friday, December 8, 2006 at the Adair County Health Department. at 801 Westlake Drive. Clinic hours will be from 8:00am to 3:00pm CT.

No appointment will be necessary for this clinic.

Alex Dillon Spoon was born on Tuesday, November 28, 2006 at 8:47am CT at TJSampson Hospital in Glasgow. He weighed 8 lbs 1 oz and was 20 inches long.

The proud parents of this beautiful baby boy are Martie and Cheryl Spoon ofColumbia. Alex also has two proud older brothers, Tyler and Preston Spoon. Grandmother Sharon Burton is holding Alex for the photo.

Adair Health Department promotes handwashing Dec. 3-9, 2006

The Adair County Health Department says that handwashing is the first line of defense agains flu or flu-like diseases.

The health department is promoting hand-washing awareness as part of the National Handwashing Awareness Week, December 3-9, 2006.

Fatal accident claims life of Betty Bray, 54

Kentucky State Police Trooper B. J. Burton responded to a fatal automobile accident at 8:50 this morning seven miles north of Columbia on highway 61.

Betty Bray, 54, of Russell Springs, was pronounced dead at the scene by coroner Rick Wilson.

Adair Board of Education hires Jeff Hoover as attorney

Only one of three auctions have closed; the Quinns have completed papers on Knifley Grade Center. Board votes to e-bay Shepherd; may sell Sparksville on the same way; no action could be finalized on contract with BCD Construction to complete athletic building at this time. Board waiting on State.

Attorney Jeff Hoover, who now has offices in Columbia and Jamestown, will be the attorney for the Adair County Board of Education effective January 1, 2007. And Shepherd School will be auctioned on e-Bay.

City police arrest Pulaski man on drug, other charges

Columbia officers find William H. Shadon had outstanding warrants for parole violation; had given them false name and address

The Columbia Police Department arrest a Pulaski County man on drug charges inside the City Limits of Columbia early Wednesday morning, November 29, 2006.

William H. Shadon, 33, was charged with possession of meth, possession of marijuana, and giving police a false name and address.

Obituary: Esther J. Loy Cox, 84, dies in Illinois

Esther J. Loy Cox age 84 years Oak Lawn, IL, formerly of Adair County, KY, passed away Monday, Nov. 27, 2006 in Oak Lawn, IL.

She was the daughter of the late Millard and Mary Lydia Stone Loy of Adair CO, KY, and the widow of Everett Cox.

Obituary: George W. Stotts, 77, Korean War veteran

Mr. Stotts leaves a large family. He was retired from General Electric in Louisville. He was a member of the Harrods Fork Baptist Church and was a Kentucky Colonel.

George W. Stotts, 77, 56 Willie's DR, Columbia, KY, passed away Monday, November 27, 2006, at 8:40pm, at Medco Center of Campbellsville, KY, after an illness.

The funeral service will be Thursday, November 30, 2006, at 1:00pm CT, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY. Interment will be in Harrods Fork Cemetery. Visitation after 4:30pm CT, Wednesday, November 29, 2006, at the funeral home.

Downtown Columbia became 3,000 lights brighter after the 15 foot offical Christmas in Columbia tree was placed and decorated on the courthouse lawn yesterday. It's a project of L.E.A.D Adair. Chamber of Commerce Christmas in Columbia Chairman Dave Johnston was there help erect the tree, which was a gift from Joe Barbee.

Adair Veterans List update November 29, 2006

Six more names to the Veterans List, and word is received that Staff Sgt. Kenny Lee Pyles returned from Iraq on November 19, 2006 and that 1LT Shane Pollard will return from Iraq in December 2007

Three more letters were received Tuesday, November 28, 2006 with new names and more information to be added to the compilation of list honoring Adair County Veterans.

We're learning with greater frequency of the impact of the war in Iraq on Adair Countians. Amelia Foster wrote that her son, Staff Sgt. Kenny Lee Pyles has just returned from service there, and Melody Pollard also sent word that her son, 1LT Shane Pollard, is now serving in Iraq.

The new names have been added to the list. The letters received Tuesday follow:

Driver injured when Jeep overturns on KY 70

Matthew E. Allen, 19, Liberty, KY, was treated at Casey County Hospital, Liberty, following a single vehicle accident on KY 70, 1.5 miles west of Liberty, KY, on Tuesday, November 28, 2006.

Allen was traveling east on KY 70 in a 1995 Jeep. The vehicle crossed the centerline after it was overcorrected and subsequently struck an earth embankment, causing it to overturn prior to coming to a final rest.

The Emily Griffitt Anderson murder case: Bond decision expected
Friday, December 1, 2006, may be the day of decision for a bond plea for the man accused of the murder of Adair Countian Emily Griffith Anderson in North Carolina.

Emily Griffith Anderson grew up in Columbia and was very recently a resident of Cane Valley, KY. She had been reported missing on December 29, 2005, and her body was found on January 7, 2006. Her husband, Jerry Anderson, is held in Lenoir, NC, charged with her murder.
