Obituary: Orvel Joseph Blackburn, 77, dies of accident injuries

Formerly of Adair County. He had retired in Vine Grove, KY

Funeral for father and son today at 1:00pm at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Hom

Orvel Joseph "Joe" Blackburn, 77, 6090 Hwy 60, Vine Grove, KY, formerly of Adair County, KY, died Monday, October 9, 2006, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Hardin County, KY.

The funeral service will Be Friday, October 13, 2006, at 1:00pm CT, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Edward Brown and Bro. Earl Neat officiating. Burial will be in Caldwell Chapel Cemetery, Knifley, KY. Visitation will be after 10:00am CT, Friday, October 13, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.

Piper Lynn Kemp was born on October 10,2006 in Lebanon, KY. The proud parents of this 7 lbs. 8 ozs. baby girl are Nick and Whitney Kemp of Adair County.

Obituary: Delpha M. McKinney, 98, member Wells Chapel Baptist

The matriarch of a large, respected South Adair County, she was widely known in quilting circles, and continued needle work to age 98

Delpha Margaret McKinney, age 98, passed away Wednesday October 11, 2006 at the Nursing Home and services are scheduled for 11:00am CT, Saturday, October 14, 2006, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.

She was the daughter of the late Amos Jackson and Mintie Dickson Coomer and was preceded in death by her husband James Ray McKinneyin 1983. They were married fifty-five years.

TRAGEDY at KNIFLEY. Two die in early morning house fire


Update, 2:18pm, Friday, October 13, 2006.
Two photos accompany this story
An early morning tragedy on Elkhorn Road, just west of the KY 551 and KY 76 Crossroads, Knifley, KY, took the lives of two people.

The victims have been identified as Laura M. Gadberry (not Davis, as earlier listed) and Todd Judd, residents of the house, bystanders said. The positive identification will come after an autopsy is done in Louisville. A Kentucky State Polilce Spokesperson said that others, at least two, were in the house at the time of the fire.

Knifley Area Volunteer Fire Department (KAVFD) Chief Jackie Perkins said that his personnel answered the alarm at 3:00am, Thursday morning, October 12, 2006.

Traffic, Parking:Parking should be easier to find in Downtown Columbia. Traffic should not be so heavy. There is a light day in Adair County Court today, with only six cases scheduled for Circuit Court and no cases scheduled in District Court. And today is the last day of Fall Break for Adair County Schools. You may see some activity building toward the huge "Folklore of the Old West"Fall Festival which will flood Downtown Columbia with hundreds of people starting Friday afternoon. A complete schedule for the Festival is listed in the Events calendar. This year is the 13th for the festival, the brainchild of impresario Charles Grimsley.

JAIS discipline meeting is October 17, 2006
