Obituary: Delpha M. McKinney, 98, member Wells Chapel Baptist

The matriarch of a large, respected South Adair County, she was widely known in quilting circles, and continued needle work to age 98

Delpha Margaret McKinney, age 98, passed away Wednesday October 11, 2006 at the Nursing Home and services are scheduled for 11:00am CT, Saturday, October 14, 2006, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.

She was the daughter of the late Amos Jackson and Mintie Dickson Coomer and was preceded in death by her husband James Ray McKinneyin 1983. They were married fifty-five years.



She is survived by the following children:

Alfred McKinney and his wife Maisie of Glasgow, Ky

Ruby England and her husband Phillip of Cave City, Ky

Betty Bean and her husband Wilma, J. D. McKinney and his wife Jenette, Patricia Stotts and Phyllis Burris and her husband Sam allof Columbia, Ky.

One brother: Rev. John L. Coomer of Columbia, Ky.

One sister: Signora Pelston of Columbia, Ky.

11 grandchildren, 3 Step-grandchildren, 22 Great Grandchildren,

6 Step Great Grandchildren and 5 Great Great Grandchildren. She is also survived by a host of Nieces, Nephews, friends and other relatives

She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters: Owen and Coy Coomer Reba Traylor and Eunice Coomer

She was a member of Wells Chapel Baptist Church,housewife. did needle work, she quilted many beautiful quilts and enjoyed thatup to the age of 98. She gave her life to the Lord when she was age 13, andtaught Sunday School for many years

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 14, 2006 at 11:00 A. M. atStotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home

Clergy officiating will be Bro. Sam Burris and Bro. David McKinney.

Interment will be in Fudge Cemetery at Breeding.

Visitation after 3:30 P. M. Friday.

Delpha Margaret McKinney, 98, left a wonderful legacy of quilting art. Daughters Betty Bean and Phyllis Burris, along with son-in-law Rev. Sam Burris, display one of the many beautiful works this remarkable Adair Countian created. Delpha McKinney continued quilting into her 98th year. Her funeral service will be at 11:00am, CT, Saturday, October 14, 2006, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY.
