Vandals deface Sparksville School. Start blaze Swastikas, vulgar graffitti painted with spraypaint. Breeding firemen contain blaze. KSP Arson Investigator and Adair County Sheriff's Office continue investigation. Information urgently requested. Photo accompanies this story The Adair County Sheriff's Department received a call at around 11:30am on Monday, October 2, 2006, from the Breeding Fire Department about possible arson at Sparksville School. Deputies Charles Greer, Tracy McCarol, and Michael Burton responded to the call. Deputy Burton and Greer walked through the school and noticed several different vulgar symbols and swastikas painted thoughout the school. The graffitti was painted with orange florescent spraypaint. It appeared that a fire was set on the stage, which caused the curtain, along with a small room on the stage, to burn. $250 Reward offered in Mt. Carmel boat vandalization The Adair County Sheriff's Department is investigating the vandalism of a boat at the Mount Carmel Boat Ramp on Monday, October 2, 2006. The boat was vandalized some time between 6:00pm on October 1 and 11:00am on October 2, 2006. There were several items taken from the boat. Deputy Michael Burton is investigating the case. One prospect appears to have dropped out, but second is at a stage where CACIDA members may be invited to visit their location By Ed Waggener Jason Corbin was elected as the new chairman of the Columbia Adair County Industrial Authority (CACIDA) at its October 2006 regular meeting. Jason Corbin succeeds Barry Corbin as chairman. He headed a slate presented to the four board members present by CACIDA Executive Director Martin Jones. The slate was approved 4-0, with those present, Barry Loy, Mike Neal, Randy Nelson, and Monica Rodgers all voting for the slate. Four killed, two injured in terrible Monroe County accident Three-vehicle collisions takes lives of two Monroe County, KY, two Red Boiling Springs, TN, individuals after car strikes farm implement and vehicle goes into opposite lane and is struck by pickup truck Four people were killed and another was injured in a three-vehicle collision on KY 163 seven miles north of Tompkinsville, KY, at approximately 7:15pm, Monday, October 2, 2006. Grover Evans, 76, Tompkinsville, was traveling south on KY HWY 163 in a 1998 Ford Contour when he ran into the back of a farm tractor and implement being driven by Druie Wood, 45, Tompkinsville. Following the collision with the farm implement, the vehicle rolled onto its side into the northbound land, and was struck by a 1996 Chevrolet pickup, driven by Cory Wheeler, 16, Tompkinsville, KY. Columbia City Council regular Oct. 2, 2006 meeting City tables action on new garbage truck, to study complex bids. Mayor admits lack of expertise when it comes to garbage trucks. DDS Engineering, Bowling Green, KY, approved as consulting engineers. Ordinances on budget changes, city code get first readings. Mayor given authority to act on city's behalf, execute four large grants. Mayor is eyeing Adanta Building for City complex; says new Homeland Security funded communications center will likely be incorporated into columned City Hall. Mayor says he'll get CACIDA to give progress (or lack of progress) report, soon, as requested by Councillor Craig Dean. Adjournment almost overlooked, but a cherished tradition is saved by action of City Clerk Carolyn Edwards. October Roadside PRIDE month proclaimed. County Attorney Jennifer Hutchinson-Corbin will address a luncheon gathering at Cranmer Dining Center. Her topic is domestic violence. Also at noon, there will be a meeting of CACIDA, the Columbia-Adair County Industrial Development Authority. And at 7:00pm, Anwar Accawi, author, will lecture in Begley Chapel. Only one case is scheduled in Adair County Court today; it is in Adair Circuit Court, and that is a competency hearing for Christopher Benham, relative to three charges: Tampering with evidence, complicity to falsely report an incident, and falsely reporting an incident.
