CACIDA Aug. 2, 2006 report: Meetings to be 1st Tues., noon Authority board changes regular monthly meetings to noon on each first Tuesday. Authority delays election of new Chairman for one month after Randy Nelson, and in turn every other member, turns down post; Chairman Barry Corbin reluctantly stays on for 30 days. Bylaws may be changed to restructure leadership. Majestic Yachts ribbon cutting coming in October. Authority sends notice to auction company, Kentucky Real Estate Commission about covenants in Green River Commerce Park deeds. Available labor force study jointly with a couple of neighboring counties may be considered. Sports: 78 Players in Columbia Open Tennis Tournament Eleven players from Adair County are among competitors By Tim Perkins Columbia was home to one of the areas largest tennis tournaments this past weekend, July 29 and 30th, as 78 players competed from surrounding counties in the 2006 CKTS (Central Kentucky Tennis Series) Columbia Open Tennis Tournament. Eleven of the players participating in the tournament were from Adair County. The tournament was played at Lindsey Wilson College, the Adair County High School, and the Columbia Fairground facilities. Adair County unemployment climbs slightly in June But local jobs market still second to Taylor in 10-county Lake Cumberland Area Development District; 8,438 at work here in June; ColumbiaMagazine.com chart shows rankings Adair County's unemployment rate of 5.7% was up slightly from the May 2006 figure of 5.3%, and up even less when compared to the figure for June 2006, which stood at 5.6%. The rate was the second best in the 10-county Lake Cumberland Area Development District. Taylor County, with 5.2% unemployed, was best. Arraignment today in Doing Donuts, later altercation at Breeding Prominent businessman and dairy owner and his step son to be arraigned at 9:00am CT, today, in Adair District Court; he's charged with breaking leg of Joey Burris in incident; two others involved in incident are to be arraigned later on lesser assault charges There are no cases scheduled for Adair Circuit Court this morning, but District Court has a fairly heavy schedule with 88 cases on the docket for today, including two which have generated a great deal of excitement in Southern Adair County. These cases are the 2nd Degree Assault Charges against Brian Murley, prominent Breeding dairy farmer and co-owner of Hwy 61 Country Mart at Breeding, and his son-in-law, Edward Jay Wilson of Independence Road, near Breeding. The two are scheduled to be arraigned at 9:00am CT this morning in Adair District Court. LETTER: Grandfather served with Lt. Warren Shipp of Adair CO. Writer wonders if any readers have more knowledge of Adair County WWII hero which might help with reasearch on relative I have been researching my grandfather's service in WW2 i know that he had worked on the plane that Lt. Shipp was the pilot, i have pictures of the the plane "Jackpot" serial # 42-24797. Lt. Shipp is also in some of the pictures. I have inherited a photo album with all sorts of pictures from Tinian Island, and have been doing all sorts of reseach for my family on my grandfather's service. My grandfather was Walter Lloyd Lewis of Sullivan, IN.
