Adair Garden Club begins season caring for TR House grounds

The Adair County Garden Club's stewardship of the Trabue-Russell House is a regular every Wednesday weekly affair through the garden season. Members gather at 7:30amCT at TRH, 201 Jamestown Street, Columbia, KY, to do their magic. Volunteers interested in helping may call President Donna Jones at 270-634-2125.

The Adair County Garden Club began its 2016 season at the Trabue Russell House, 201 Jamestown Street, Wednesday, April 6, 2016.

President Donna Jones commended the City of Columbia for getting so much accomplished in just one month since they'd asked for help with the City's property that is maintained by Garden Club volunteers.

Adair Garden Club members got an early start on the spring season at the Trabue Russell House Wednesday morning. They are the volunteers who keep the gardens there plus downtown. Present today were Donna Jones, president, and Jeanne Marshburn, Lila Loy and Jerry Holt.

LWC's Dante Johnson NAIA National Track Athlete of the week

COLUMBIA, KY - Dante Johnson has been named the NAIA National Men's Track Athlete of the Week, the national office announced on Wednesday.

It marks the first time in Lindsey Wilson men's track and field program history that a Blue Raider has earned the national recognition.

Earlier this week, Johnson was also selected as the Mid-South Conference Track Athlete of the Week for the third time in his career.

Johnson won all three track events he competed in at the Centre Invitational, breaking two meet records and securing one national "A" standard.

The sophomore from Radcliff, Kentucky was a part of the 4x100 meter relay team that won the event with a time of 41.79 seconds, breaking the previous meet record of 42.17 seconds. Johnson then won the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.86 seconds, beating the previous meet record of 15.06 seconds and securing his national standard.

Johnson completed his hat trick with a victory in the 400 meter dash, crossing the tape first out of 39 competitors with his time of 49.60 seconds. Johnson accounted for 30 team points at the invitational, helping the Blue Raiders to a runner-up team finish

Reader reports 1st malt liquor license in Russell County, KY

Location is Stop & Save, 900 Maple Drive, Russell Springs, KY. Adair CJE Mike Stephens reports that Russell County Judge Gary Robertson has notified area officials that the first sales are scheduled for 5pmCT, today, Wednesday, April 6, 2016.

According to the Kentucky Alcoholic Beverage Control website, a malt liquor license has been granted to Bajrangbali Inc. for a convenience mart in Russell Springs near the Cumberland Parkway interchange.

Details may be viewed by going to ABCStarPortal , entering Zip Code 42642, clicking on the "search" button and then clicking on "details" for the license granted to Bajrangbali Inc. (The only other license granted thus far in Russell County is for a transporter.)

This appears to be a temporary license, as it was issued yesterday (April 5, 2016) and expires April 30.

Information about the business itself may be viewed on the Kentucky Secretary of State's site at Secretary of State.

Field Botanist Alicia Bosela, Columbia, KY, owner of Ironweed Nursery, will give us a tour of her nursery, and provide information about how to incorporate natives into our gardens and their importance.

Eagle Press America to open plant in Franklin, Simpson Co., KY

CONTINUING KENTUCKY ECONOMIC GROWTH: Press stamping equipment manufacturer to invest more than $1 million, create 10 jobs. Sen. FRANKFORT, Ky. (April 5, 2016) - Governor Matt Bevin announced today that Eagle Press, a manufacturer of industrial presses and stamping equipment, will bring a manufacturing component from Canada to Kentucky.

Eagle Press plans to invest more than $1 million in Franklin to build its new facility and purchase equipment. The project will create an estimated 10 new full-time jobs in Simpson County.

CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY - (Tue 5 Apr 2016) - Cassidy Scantland added a little more hardware to her already filled trophy case this weekend, with her 10th career tournament championship at the Mid-South Conference Spring Invitational.

Scantland, a junior from Greensburg, KY, fired a 152 (73-79) in her two rounds to win medalist honors. She outlasted a last push by University of the Cumberlands' Constanze Sieker 154 (81-73).
