Adair Garden Club begins season caring for TR House grounds

The Adair County Garden Club's stewardship of the Trabue-Russell House is a regular every Wednesday weekly affair through the garden season. Members gather at 7:30amCT at TRH, 201 Jamestown Street, Columbia, KY, to do their magic. Volunteers interested in helping may call President Donna Jones at 270-634-2125.

The Adair County Garden Club began its 2016 season at the Trabue Russell House, 201 Jamestown Street, Wednesday, April 6, 2016.

President Donna Jones commended the City of Columbia for getting so much accomplished in just one month since they'd asked for help with the City's property that is maintained by Garden Club volunteers.

She said the City has already repaired the gutters, power washed the exterior, and mowed the lawn. She said it is much appreciated and will help them as they begin work on this historic public site.

Members present with her at the start of work were Jeanne Marshburn, Lila Loy and Jerry Holt.

They began clearing dead leaves from around the King Solomon plants and hostas and worked their way around to the front. King Solomon plaints have a lovely white bloom similar to lily of the valley. The garden has a lot of extra space now but will completely fill up as the plants are cared for and allowed to grow.

They will be at the Trabue Russell House weekly, starting at 7:30amCT, weeding and pruning the roses as needed. Volunteers interested in helping may call Donna Jones at 270-634-2125. From the Trabue House, they were heading to the Adair Public Library to join more members who are working on an official Monarch Butterfly garden.
