Keen-eyed Occasional Observer comments on Downing photo

The Occasional Observer writes:
Great photo! This view has changed considerably since my undergraduate days in the 19's. Near the right border not far removed from the lower corner, in the bull's-eye of the crossed sidewalks and somewhat shrouded by foliage, silently stands the likeness of Uncle Ed Diddle, the pride of Gradyville, quietly taking in the passing scene. - The Occasional Observer

By Calen McKinney

In Jessica Bradshaw's integrated science classes, Campbellsville High School students have studied how a hot air balloon works and were then asked to make their own. Students used tissue paper and glue to make their balloons. They began by tracing a pattern on the tissue paper and cutting it out. They then glued the paper together.

After the balloon was built, students added a ring at the bottom through which air would travel to see if the balloon would float.

For those who haven't studied their recitations, Mt. Vernon Church isn't far removed from Esto (named after William Louis Esto Bazeldo Frank McAwain Barger, a young citizen of the communithy when the post office there was established, for those who keep track of such things), the southern-most point of the Sacred Triangle.
