Football: ACHS travels to Casey County on Friday By Trey Stephens, Staff Writer The Adair County Indians Football team will return to the field Friday for a road game against the Casey County Rebels (0-2). Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30pmCT on September 5, 2025, at Casey County High School, 1841 E State Hwy 70, Liberty, KY. Tickets are $7, and available at gofan.co. The Indians come off a one point loss last week to the Metcalfe County Hornets, while the Rebels come off a 48-0 loss to Bourbon County. Both teams will undoubtably be hungry for their first win of the season, and the Indians will be looking to avenge their last matchup against Casey County, where the Tribe fell 22-21. The Rebels have struggled this season on pass coverage, giving up 535 passing yards through just two games thus far. Casey County has also struggled turning the ball over, throwing five interceptions already this season through just two games. The Tribe will look to take advantage of the Rebels in these two categories as they seek to get their first win in Liberty since 2021. Schmidt, Cross compete in jiu-jitsu World Masters Championship By Duane Bonifer Two Lindsey Wilson University administrators are proof that some college athletes never stop competing, they simply find new ways to compete. Dean of Students Chris Schmidt and Assistant Dean of Students Abe Cross, who serve in the university's student services office, were among the thousands of people from around the world who competed at the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation World Masters Championship, held August 28-30, 2025, in Las Vegas. All of the competitors at the Las Vegas event were at least 30 years old, and individuals competed according to their rank, age and weight class. "It was an awesome event, it was incredible," said Schmidt. "It's one of those things where Abe and I have been training with our coach for almost seven years, and the idea of competing against people your own age and division from around the world was challenging and exciting." Schmidt bowed out in the first round, losing to the eventual winner, who had won multiple world titles, of his bracket. But Cross went 3-1, ending up on the podium with the bronze medal in his class -- 35- to 40-year olds with a purple belt (the third rank of six rankings) who are in the ultra-heavyweight class (a minimum weight of 222 pounds). Letter: Richard Lee Walker helped bring water to county By Billy Joe Fudge We can all be thankful for the foresight and dogged determination of my friend, Richard Lee Walker. As Adair County Judge Executive for two terms beginning in 1986 he used his influence in the Democratic Party and Kentucky State Government to lay mile after mile of waterline in all parts of the county. Not only did he call in favors from the party and state, he asked for help from me and I'm sure from many others. He called me up and said he wanted to lay waterline from my Dad's house on 768 out Harvey's Ridge to HWY 704. As a Forest Ranger, I got permission from my boss and a couple weeks later I had the required number of signatures and work began in a very short period of time.
