Poynter to present KARES at Fiscal Court meeting Aaron Poynter, Director of Re-Entry Programming with the South Central Kentucky Workforce Development Board, is on the agenda for this afternoon's Adair Co. Fiscal Court meeting to speak about launching KARES in Adair County. KARES (Kentucky Area Resources) launched an online tool in Russell County in partnership with the Fiscal Court and city governments. Poynter says that KARES has been tremendously successful and heavily used by both individuals and KARES partners. They have already expanded the KARES network to Barren County and Hart County, and Pulaski County and Monroe County are being built and added to the network. In a nutshell, KARES is a local network to get the members of local communities connected to the things they need to be successful, whether it is general employment, food, housing, or identification. This 23-County Resource Guide has been developed into an application that can be accessed on the internet at https://www.kares.us. There are some specific tools to help folks re-entering society after incarceration, and to help local officials who work with them. Poynter, who has a background as a police officer, says, "we are aware that often times the 'reentering individual' needs something specific and specific guidance," but he stresses, "KARES is for EVERYONE - even individuals that are currently working but may need career training or other resources." Carol Perkins: Blue and Gray Previous Column: Taps on their shoes By Carol Perkins As the season finale of basketball approaches, I had a thought about a time when I was in the eighth grade and a homecoming memory. The incident wasn't funny at the time, but has become a classic. I was a proud Bluejay cheerleader, and homecoming night was the highlight of the year, and our principal took the night very seriously. In the Edmonton High School gym, blue and white crepe paper hung from the balcony and across the back of the wooden bleachers were signs. We cheerleaders were given time off to go to Fanny's Beauty Shop to get our hair "done." That's when the trouble began.
