Adair Co. Fair Christmas Drive

By Amanda Davis

The Adair County Fair wants to send out a huge thank you to our community! This weekend, we handed out toys and gift cards for families in need in Adair County.

A special mention to Cash Express and the Resource Center by helping with much needed toys, which came from donations from our generous community. We were able to provide for 98 children and numerous individuals and families. This year the Adair Co. Fair held a Facebook Live Auction to also raise funds for this.

LWC Bonner Scholars Coats For Kids Program hits 10-year mark

By Travis Smith

More than 50 Adair County Head Start children will have a warmer winter season. 2021 marks the tenth year that the LWC Bonner Program has led the Coats for Kids program. The effort helps to collect coats for children from low-income families. The coats were distributed Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at Adair County Head Start.

LWC alumnae Brooke Harmon ('15), who currently teaches at Taylor County Primary Center, said that she's happy to see that the program is still going strong.

"It's truly amazing how a simple initiative can impact the lives of so many, especially those most deserving," said Harmon. "I am so proud to know that Coats for Kids has continued on for 10 years and so appreciative of all those who have contributed and helped make this possible. My hope is that the program continues on for many more years as well."

Spears to CU graduates: Make your mark

By Joan C. McKinney

Campbellsville, KY - There were four ceremonies in Ransdell Chapel on Friday, December 10, 2021, for the 933 candidates for graduation that made 2,650 graduates for May, August and December for the 2020-21 academic year. The students receive their degrees on the recommendation of the faculty and the approval of the Board of Trustees.

Dr. H. Keith Spears, the 11th president of Campbellsville University, told the 933 candidates for graduation that they are not the same person who arrived at the university four years ago, and he charged the "new person in each of them to do three things."

He told them to "reflect on your alma mater the good things that you have learned. Be a good emissary for Campbellsville University and carry its mantle well."

He urged each graduate to look at the great seal of Campbellsville University that has an equilateral triangle fortified with fellowship, leadership and scholarship - elements that can fortify all of us, he said.

He said fellowship is for harmony and respect for others, leadership is to take others to a higher destiny and scholarship is to be committed to lifelong learning.

And he urged the graduates to do something unexpected. "Something that no one you know would have an inkling that you would do," Spears said. "Climb a mountain. Drive a race car. Jump out of an airplane (with a parachute). Cash in your last bit of student aid and take a mission trip to the ends of the earth like Uzbekistan. Do something that signifies that you can take on this world, do it well and make your mark."
