LWC Bonner Scholars Coats For Kids Program hits 10-year mark By Travis Smith More than 50 Adair County Head Start children will have a warmer winter season. 2021 marks the tenth year that the LWC Bonner Program has led the Coats for Kids program. The effort helps to collect coats for children from low-income families. The coats were distributed Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at Adair County Head Start. LWC alumnae Brooke Harmon ('15), who currently teaches at Taylor County Primary Center, said that she's happy to see that the program is still going strong. "It's truly amazing how a simple initiative can impact the lives of so many, especially those most deserving," said Harmon. "I am so proud to know that Coats for Kids has continued on for 10 years and so appreciative of all those who have contributed and helped make this possible. My hope is that the program continues on for many more years as well." LWC Director of Civic Engagement Natalie Vickous said that Harmon's initial idea continues to be important for young children in the Adair County community during the winter season. "Coats for Kids embodies what Bonner stands for," said Vickous. "A student who saw a real need in our community, created something to fill that need, and in doing so built a legacy of positive impact that lasted long after she graduated." It is estimated that Bonner Scholars have helped to collect over 500 coats for children of low-income families over the past ten years. This story was posted on 2021-12-15 20:00:07
