Phillip Coffey - Unite

UNITE - By Phillip Coffey
Yesterday and the day before - such a huge, massive cost
To ole Kentucky, but we must quickly unite together
To rise above the 'ashes' - placing weakened left in the loss
To some sense of normalcy with food, clothes, shelter - whatever.

"Joy to the World" we soon shall all, 'tis the season', be singing
But we citizens in the Commonwealth, hesitate - so much grieving.
May we soon with Christ guidance, rejoice - birthed by our giving.
Though we are struggling - hope, faith and love - never ending.

Letter: Pee Wee made a positive difference in Adair

Doug McCammish writes:
Adair County owes the late Arvist "Pee Wee" Sinclair a huge debt of gratitude for his untiring work to clean up roadside litter and illegal waste dumps in the county.

As someone said to me this morning, "Pee Wee DID clean up Adair." Perhaps the annual clean up days should include his name in remembrance of his work. He made a positive difference. --Doug

Taylor County needs your prayers

Larry Smith, General Manager of the Big Dawg radio in Campbellsville, is sharing pictures and reports from emergency management service members who began search and rescue efforts before dawn yesterday after the tornadoes of December 11, 2021 hit the Saloma community.

First responders working with friends and neighbors through discovery, finding one woman who had lost her life in the storm, helping wounded people get medical treatment, and beginning to assess the unbelievable damage, Larry said, "It has been a very bad day here today. Taylor County needs your prayers."

For Taylor Countians and for fellow Kentuckians all across the state who have suffered losses, we send our prayers. - LW

Team Western Kentucky Tornado Relief Fund

By Crystal Staley/Scottie Ellis

Bowling Green, KY - On Saturday, December 11, 2021, at 3pmCT, Gov. Andy Beshear updated Kentuckians on his administration's response to Friday night's deadly quad-state tornado. The Governor reminded Kentuckians of three tips for assisting impacted families:
  • First, if they are in a community that has been hit hard by the storms, and they are safe and have power, stay off the roads. "Let our first responders get to everybody. Don't go to these areas to see it. We need to make sure those who do this work can do it at the fastest possible speed," the Governor said.

  • Second, give blood. "We were already pretty short with COVID out there. We're going to have a lot of deaths, but we are also going to have a lot of injuries," the Governor said.

  • The Governor added: "Third, we have set up a single fund connected with the state that people who want to help - in Kentucky and out of the state - can give to. It is solely dedicated to helping the on-the-ground efforts going on right now and the relief efforts these families are going to need to rebuild. The Team Western Kentucky Tornado Relief Fund is now live at TeamWKYReliefFund.ky.gov."
