Blue Raiders win in overtime against Georgetown

By Kyle Jackson

Georgetown, KY - The No. 13 Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team (4-1, 4-1 Mid-South Conference) won a third consecutive road match this season with a 1-0 overtime victory over Georgetown (Ky.) Sunday afternoon.

The match was dominated by the battle between the two goalkeepers as both Megan Martin for Georgetown and Eveljn Frigotto for Lindsey Wilson had big afternoons for their teams. Both goalkeepers got to work early into the game when they had to make a couple of saves to keep the score at 0-0. Around the 32-minute mark Claudia Santillan Escobar found Yudaya Nakayenze with a through ball into the box to set up a 1v1 battle between the midfielder and the goalkeeper. Martin won the individual battle for the Tigers, pouncing on top of the ball before Nakayenze could make an effort towards goal. Martin made six saves in the first half for the Tigers and helped keep the score at 0-0 into the halftime period.

ACSO: Adair man arrested for multiple outstanding warrants

An Adair County man has been arrested on felony drug charges along with multiple felony warrants, including charges stemming from a vehicle pursuit just weeks prior.

By Sheriff Josh Brockman
Adair County Sheriff's Office

On Wednesday, March 3, 2021, at around midnight, Adair County Sheriff's Deputy Derek Padgett and Chief Deputy Justin Cross received information that a man wanted on several felony warrants was hiding at a location off of Lether Burton Road, nine miles east of Columbia.

In addition, the Adair County Sheriff's Office had a signed felony warrant for the man's arrest, stemming from an event just weeks earlier, where Deputy Chandler Staten observed him in a vehicle and attempted to stop him. At that time, the man fled out KY 61 South, leading deputies in a high speed pursuit. The identity of the driver was know, and the vehicle pursuit was ultimately terminated due to unsafe road conditions and concerns for public safety.

During a search of the Lether Burton Road location on Wednesday, deputies were able to locate the man hiding in a garage. He was taken into custody, and during a subsequent search of his person, suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia were located.

Letter: Yellow Bellied Sapsucker

Wendy Butler Burt writes:
"On a walk through the woods you might spot rows of shallow holes in tree bark. This is the work of the Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, an enterprising woodpecker that laps up the leaking sap and any trapped insects with its specialized, brush-tipped tongue. Attired sharply in barred black-and-white, with a red cap and (in males) throat, they sit still on tree trunks for long intervals while feeding. Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers aren't regular bird feeder visitors, although they are fond of suet feeders." --Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology website: www.allaboutbirds.org

Dr. Williams speaks on The Right to Responsibility

"...we are connected by being participants within a community, which ultimately means we have certain obligations to each other through citizenship."

By Scarlett Birge, student news writer,
Office of University Communications

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - "There seems to be, largely, an absence of the idea of responsibility or obligation that comes with our rights," Dr. Shawn Williams, associate and lead professor of political science and director of the Kentucky Heartland Institute on Public Policy, said during Campbellsville University's virtual Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) lecture "On Ethical Citizenship: The Right to Responsibility" in February.

Williams spoke about the need to understand the difference between moral and ethical responsibilities, especially in political contexts. He said ethical responsibilities depend on relationships between people while moral obligations are individual decisions.
