Basic budgeting can make for a happy new year

From the Adair County Cooperative Extension Service

Give yourself some peace of mind and a sense of control over your money. Creating a household budget can give you realistic expectations and start the new year off right.

A budget is a written plan for your money. Use it to track how you choose to earn and spend your money. It helps to use a budget worksheet, such as the Basic Budget Builder worksheet included in the University of Kentucky Extension's Use Less, Spend Wi$e challenge packet.

Kentucky Color: Great Wooded South Blessing

By Billy Joe Fudge

May your springs be green with renewal.
May your summers be cooled by a soft breeze.
May your autumns be filled with color.
May your winters be warmed by your love for each other,
And may the Lord God Almighty,
Creator of the heavens and the earth,
Bless your every word and deed.

Letter: Pleasant View Log Church

Yvonne Kolbenschlag writes:
I am so glad to know that the little log church is getting TLC. There may be help if you contact www.PreservationKentucky.org.

Besides matching money grants information, there is a way to contact via an email form someone at Preservation Kentucky who will answer questions. I think someone there will be interested in the project and willing to help in some way. This project will be one, I think, that will be an interesting story for the PK newsletter.

LCDHD: 77 cases tied to holiday gatherings already

By Amy Tomlinson
Lake Cumberland District Health Department

After a few weeks of declining cases, last week saw an increase in the new case rate at both the state and local level. This week, Lake Cumberland added 1,007 new cases, last week, 789. We also broke our all-time one-day new case record on 12/30/20 adding 301 new cases. Last Saturday, we were at 867 active cases, today, 908. Twelve deaths occurred this week. Hospitalizations also remain high.

We have had 34 cases tie back to Christmas gatherings so far. We had 43 cases tie back to Thanksgiving gatherings. Please realize that large family gatherings are not safe. In fact, any situation that encourages gathering is not safe.

Until the vaccine is largely available, let's all do our part in slowing the spread of COVID-19 by wearing our face coverings, avoiding crowds (especially in confined spaces), social distancing when around others, increasing our hand hygiene, increasing our general sanitation, and by avoiding the touching of our faces.
