Caregivers lunch is Wednesday, 6 Nov 2019

The Adair County Caregivers Support Group will hold its November meeting on Wednesday, November 6, 2019, at 11amCT at the Extension Office on Fairground Street in Columbia.

The topic this month is Easy Thanksgiving Meals for Caregivers.

If you share in the care for another person and could use helpful information about services available in the area, this is a good hour.

A light lunch is served and it is free and open to the public.

Bevin carries Adair County

KET is reporting that Adair County broke heavily for incumbent Governor Matt Bevin, with 69.3% of the vote to Andy Beshear's 29%, with Libertarian John Hicks garnering just 85 votes in the county, for 1.8%.

LWC Women's Basketball downs Berea 72-53

The No. 15-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team defeated Berea (Ky.) 72-53 on Tuesday night at Biggers Sports Center. The Blue Raiders remain a perfect 4-0 on the season with the win.

Reagan Turner scored a game-high 21 points as she added seven rebounds and went 7-of-9 from the charity stripe. DeAsia Outlaw was the only other Blue Raider in double figures as she finished with 13 points and a game-high eight rebounds. Outlaw added three steals and four blocks as Haeli Howard tallied four steals.

T.J. Samson Community Hospital awarded Acute Stroke Ready Certification

Glasgow, KY - T.J. Samson Community Hospital has earned The Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval(R) and the American Stroke Association's Heart-Check mark for Acute Stroke Ready Certification.

T.J. Samson Community Hospital underwent a rigorous onsite review in July 2019. During the visit, a Joint Commission reviewer with extensive clinical experience in acute stroke diagnosis and management evaluated compliance with related certification standards including program design and management as well as policies and procedures to facilitate guideline-based assessment and treatment. The reviewer conducted onsite observations and interviews with TJS physicians, nurses, and patient care services staff as part of the evaluation process.

Patriot Drive Fire Report

The Adair County Fire Department responded to 239 Patriot Drive on Saturday morning, November 2, 2019, at 01:02amCT to a residential mobile home fire.

The fire originated at the cook stove and was contained there with minimal damage to property. There were 12 firemen on the scene for approximately 40 minutes.

Jimmy Dean Burton, 59, Columbia, KY (1960-2019)

Jimmy was the owner and operator of Jimmy's Guttering. He loved vegetable gardening, doing carpentry work, and the Kentucky Wildcats.

Jimmy Dean Burton of Columbia died Tuesday, November 5, 2019, at the Jean Waddle Hospice Care Center in Somerset, KY. He was 59 years old.

Funeral services will be held at 11amCT on Friday, November 8, 2019, at the Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg St., Columbia, KY, with Bro. Jessie Hagan officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Thursday from 4pmCT until 8pmCT at the funeral home.

KY Veteran donates WWII letter to Holocaust Museum

A Hardin County veteran has donated an artifact to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. Dave Jarrett recently donated a letter written on Adolf Hitler's stationery to the museum. The letter was by his uncle, Sherman Carpenter, who served with the U.S. Army during World War II. Carpenter was a member of the 45th Infantry Division and served in the U.S. Army division that liberated the Dachau concentration camp in 1945. Jarrett said his uncle remained in Munich after V-E Day and was out by himself and wandered into Adolf Hitler's office.

LWC Women's Soccer earns 15 MSC Academic honorees

Fifteen members of the Lindsey Wilson women's soccer program earned 2019 Academic Mid-South Conference honors, the conference office announced on Tuesday.

Kelly Baker, Kat Barnwell, Thea Birgerud, Alix Castillo, Sina Cavelti, Kaitlyn Cook, Paula Espinoza, Eveljn Frigotto, Autumn Hunt, Jovana Ivanovic, Emelie Liljered, Abby Minnicks, Alicia Thoresen and Michelle Wyatt all earned the academic honor.

Barnwell, Liljered, Cook, Hunt, Ivanovic and Wyatt all earn their third career honor, while Frigotto and Minnicks both picked up their second.

In total, 120 Mid-South Conference women's soccer student-athletes earned Academic All MSC honors.

LWC Volleyball defeats Georgetown in three-sets

The No. 10-ranked Lindsey Wilson volleyball team defeated Georgetown (KY) in a three-set Mid-South Conference battle on Monday night at Biggers Sports Center.

Senior Elly Burke recorded her ninth double-double of the season, notching 11 kills and 12 digs in her final home outing as a Blue Raider. Freshman Kasia Niderla trailed behind Burke with 10 kills of her own, add to an impressive offensive night for LWC. Freshman Camryn Rich finished with 24 assists while also adding eight digs on the night. On defense, sophomore Lauren Larzelere led the way with 14 digs.
