Director Tim Allen invites public to annual Spring Concert

Tim Allen, Director of Instrumental Ensembles at Lindsey Wilson College, would like to invite everyone to the spring concert featuring the Concert Band, Percussion Ensemble, and Jazz Band.

The special annual event will be held Friday, May 3, at 7pmCT at Biggers Sports Arena on the main campus, 360 Spickard Drive, Columbia, KY. Admission is free.

Blanche Fortenberry, 96, of Russell Springs, died Thursday, May 2, 2019 at the Russell County Hospital.

A Celebration of her life will be held at the Bernard Funeral Home Friday evening, May 3, 2019.

Adair students back to regular Friday schedule May 3, 2019

Adair County School Superintendent Dr. Pamela Stephens released a statement reminding families that students are returning to regular schedule Friday, May 3, 2019.

Last week was the last early release Friday. Through the end of the semester, the Friday schedule will go back to the usual release schedule.

LWC Softball opens up MSC Tournament against KY Christian

No.1-seeded Lindsey Wilson softball team opens up the Mid-South Conference Softball Tournament against No. 8-seeded Kentucky Christian on Friday, May 3 at 10amCT at Michael O. Buchanon Park, Nashville Rd., Bowling Green, KY.

The Blue Raiders (42-2, 21-1 MSC) returns to the dirt after concluding their regular season by sweeping Campbellsville (Ky.) 10-7 and 9-5 on Saturday afternoon.

Infant Annabel Hooker, age 1, Taylor County, KY (2018-2019)

Annabel Sarnai Hooker, infant daughter of Timothy Wayne Hooker and Gana Ganbold Hooker, was born April 29, 2018, and died Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at Taylor Regional Hospital at the age of 1 year and 2 days. Though she faced several health-related difficulties, Annabel was a joy to all who knew her (including medical staff, who often noted her smiles and laughter).

Her funeral service will be at 11amET Friday, May 3, 2019 at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home in Campbellsville by Dr. Dan Summerlin and Rev. Brad Lauer. Visitation will be after 9amET until time for the service. Burial will be in the Brookside Cemetery.

Absentee voting machines open tomorrow, Friday 3 May 2019

For the Tuesday, May 21, 2019 Primary Elections Absentee Machines are open Friday, May 3 to Monday, May 20, 2019 during normal business hours - Monday through Friday 8am-4pmCT and on Saturdays 8am-12noonCT.

Applications for mailing an absentee ballot's must be received by Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at 4pmCT - Adair County Clerk's office, 424 Public Square, Suite 3, Columbia, KY.

Tire Amnesty Days announced for 16, 17, 18 May 2019

The Adair County Fiscal Court will be having the Adair County Waste Tire Event May 16, 17, and 18, 2019 at the State Barn, 62 Service Rd., Columbia, KY.

Hours of the event are May 16 & 17, 2019 from 8am-3pmCT and May 18, 2019 from 8am-11:30amCT.

Dr. Cathy Abell is guest speaker at Caregivers meeting

Dr. Cathy Abell spoke on leadership at the May Caregivers meeting in Columbia. She shared the qualities of a leader and spoke of the very special qualities of the servant leaders who provide care for others.

She dedicated the session to her father, Gene Hoots, and said the leadership in her family started in their home with his guidance.

The servant leader must have all the characteristics of a management leader plus the sincere desire to serve others.

CPD hires new officers Trevor Foster and Evan Burton

Released by the office of the Columbia Police Department

The Columbia Police Department swore in two new officers Wednesday morning.

Mayor Pam Hoots with Chief Jason Cross officially swore in Trevor Foster and Evan Burton.

Foster, 25, is a lifelong resident of the Sano Community in Adair County and previously worked at the Adair Youth Development Center.

He will be sent to the Department of Criminal Justice Training Academy later this year. Burton, 28, previously spent eight years with the Russell County Sheriff’s Office and is a 2012 graduate of DOCJT.

Donald E. Reynolds, 80, Summersville, KY (1938-2019)

Donald E. "Donnie" Reynolds of Summersville, passed away on Wednesday morning at the Taylor Regional Hospital in Campbellsville. He was 80 years old.

The funeral services for Donald E. "Donnie" Reynolds will be conducted at 11amCT on Friday, May 3, 2019, at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home, 206 S. Main St., Greensburg, KY, with burial to follow in the Green County Memory Gardens.

Visitation is requested from 4pmCT until 8pmCT on Thursday at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home and after 7amCT on Friday until time of the funeral service.

KSP Post 15 Monthly Activity Report April 2019

During the month of April 2019, there were 14 traffic accidents investigated by the State Police working in the Post 15 area in the 11 counties of Adair, Casey, Clinton, Cumberland, Green, Marion, Metcalfe, Monroe, Russell, Taylor and Washington.

During the month of April 2019, there were
  • 690 citations written
  • 223 courtesy notices written
  • 846 vehicles inspected
  • 522 complaints answered
  • 84 motorists assisted
  • 56 criminal cases opened
  • 201 criminal arrests made

Vonzie B. Hill, 78, Jamestown, KY (1940-2019)

Vonzie B. Hill of Jamestown, died Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at the TJ Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow. She was 78 years old.

The funeral service for Vonzie B. Hill will be held at 1pmCT on Sunday, May 5, 2019 at the Bernard Funeral Home Chapel, 367 N. Main St., Russell Springs, KY with Rev. Craig Huddleston officiating. Interment will follow in the Crockett Cemetery.

Visitation is requested from 5pmCT until 8pmCT on Saturday, and from 11amCT to 1pmCT on Sunday.

Rev. Charles Lantis Whitley, 67, Campbellsville, KY (1951-2019)

He enjoyed riding motorcycles and playing golf but his true passion was preaching, teaching and sharing the word of God.

Rev. Charles Lantis "Lanny" Whitley of Campbellsville passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2019. He was 67 years old.

Public auction of surplus and confiscated items set for May 6

Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife

Frankfort, KY - The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources will conduct its spring public auction of surplus and confiscated items on Monday, May 6, 2019.

Viewing begins at 7amCT/8amET, with bidding to begin at 9amCT/10amET. The auction will be near the Salato Wildlife Education Center, which is on the headquarters campus of Kentucky Fish and Wildlife at 1 Sportsman's Lane, Frankfort, KY. Visitors may find the headquarters complex off U.S. 60 in Frankfort, approximately 1.5 miles west of the intersection with U.S. 127. A bronze deer statue marks the entrance.

Kentucky leads the nation in utilization of kin placements: Thousands of families care for children who would otherwise be in foster care. Because of the tremendous commitment from these families, more children have the opportunity to continue to thrive with familiar people and surroundings.

Our department - the state agency that administers protective and family services - is working to give these relative and fictive caregivers access to a better menu of services to help them care for the children in their homes.
