Letter: Holland Harvey built the restaurant

Ralph Roy Waggener writes:
About Donnie’s Drive-in: The restaurant was built by Holland Harvey and was named after his son Donnie. The look of the picture I did not remember, but I do remember a Trampoline Court that was built next to it on the Parkway side. Pits were dug to have clearance and not be high off the ground. Bobby Rice and I were watching this digging when a man who was most likely the nosiest person in town went around town to read the gas pumps to see how much business they were doing. This man ask us what they were building and Bobby said “ I don’t know but I heard they were putting in Elephant Baths! -- Ralph

Plain hamburger story was a reminder about picky eaters

By Ralph Roy Waggener

About your plain hamburger story! All my family, three sisters plus two brothers, and even E.P., my dad, ate anything just about! I on the other hand only eat a very limited diet, using almost no condiments except ketchup and only when it's cooked in something, I don't use vinegar in any way, no salad dressings of any kind!

Life when you are different has a lot of problems, E.P. and I traveled when I was very young and back in those days it was customary to stay with relatives and eat with them and Dad would make over the meal, so much to my embarrassment!
