LWC Baseball drops first of 3 against Georgia Gwinnett

Lindsey Wilson baseball dropped the first game of their weekend series 19-2 against No. 4-ranked Georgia Gwinnett.

The Blue Raiders (7-26) were overpowered by the Grizzlies (34-8), being outhit 20-9 for the game. GGC also tallied 16 RBI's to overshadow Lindsey's two.

The Blue Raiders and the Grizzlies return to action Sunday as they are set to play a doubleheader beginning at 1pmCT from Egnew Park, Lindsey Wilson Sports Complex, 928 Russell Road, Columbia, KY.


Georgia Gwinnett managed an early 6-0 lead heading into the bottom of the second inning after scoring a run in the first and five in the second.

Lindsey Wilson was able to get a run back from the Grizzlies off the bat of Austin Rayno who connected for a solo shot over the left-field fence.

The Grizzlies managed to tack on seven more runs to their lead after holding Lindsey Wilson scoreless in the third and fourth innings.

After a scoreless fifth, Lindsey Wilson held off Georgia Gwinnett and pushed in another run with Seth Price crossing home.

During the top of the seventh, Georgia Gwinnett notched six more runs to finalize their tally at 19 for the night.

Tyler Maskill and Ian Gehres lead LWC with two hits apiece. Five other Blue Raiders were able to connect for hits as well. The Grizzlies recorded two batters with two home runs each which included a grand slam from Alex Garland.

Ethan Escue (1-4) grabbed the loss, starting for the Blue Raiders. Escue pitched for three innings and recorded four strikeouts during his time on the mound. Austin Streble pitched for three innings as well before Steven Calderon made an appearance for an inning.

Hunter Caudelle (4-0) picked up the win for the Grizzlies, throwing for 5.0 innings to start the game and managed four strikeouts. Michael Cherwenka pitched for the final two innings and recorded a strikeout.
