The farms on either side of this road show three of the phases of raising tobacco. At right, the tall, dark green tobacco plants wait to be topped. In the distance, center, the bright yellow tobacco is topped and ready to be cut. At left you can see the slanted tobacco sticks with cut stalks of the plant speared onto them, leaning, ready to be picked up and hauled to the barn where it will be housed until it is just right and ready to go to the sale. - LW

Betsy Fausnaugh - Reminder that Lantana is toxic

Betsy Fausnaugh writes:
Just a friendly reminder, that although Lantana is pretty, easy to grow and hardy, it is highly poisonous to animals or people if eaten. It contains a substance in the leaves and stems called triterpene. Very toxic, not recommended for use where grazing animals, dogs or cats could ingest it. --Betsy Fausnaugh
