Kayaking at Greasy Creek in Russell County, KY

By Mitzi Bault

It was a beautiful day for kayaking on Greasy Creek in Russell County.

Greasy Creek channel is part of Lake Cumberland near Jamestown in Russell County.

In the spring there are five large water falls. Now, as fall approaches, they are a lot smaller when water is at Summer Pool.

Kayaking is one of the best things for a family outing, fishing, and old ladies. Well, I am the old lady. I can't say for my kayaking buddies. Robyn Curry and Anita Reed.

We are right in the middle of some of the best kayaking water in the state of Kentucky, with Lake Cumberland, Green River, and Russell Creek (when there is enough water) close at hand. It's not so much fun to kayak on Russell Creek right now. I don't like having to drag my kayak over gravel to get from pool to pool

One of the most heart breaking things about kayaking, though, is that you always bring home all the trash that you can carry. No, you can't get it all but you never leave your trash. You bring it home or find a trash barrel. I just don't understand why, if they have the love of our water or fishing, anyone would trash it. So, please, please pick up the trash.
