CES students participate in Field Day events

Campbellsville Elementary School students recently competed in the annual Field Day games.

Students participated in class relays, 50-yard dash, ball throw, basketball shoot, bean bag toss, Frisbee throw, hula hoop, long jump, soccer kick, ring toss and tug-of-war. Winners follow:

Among the winners at Campbellsville Elementary Field Day were these kindergarten female winners in the class 50-yard dash. Delmer R. Conner, 93, Russell County, KY (1925-2018)

He was a native of Russell County, KY, and a resident of the county at the time of his death. He was the son of the late Ellen (Higgenbotham) and Dallas Conner and the widower of Jewell Pierce Conner. He leaves 11 living descendants.

Delmer R. Conner, 93, of Jamestown, KY passed away on Sunday June 24, 2018, at the Russell County Hospital, Russell Springs, KY.

Funeral Services for Delmer Conner are at H.E. Pruitt Memory Chapel, 202 N Main Street, Jamestown, KY, at 11amCT, Tuesday June 26, 2018, Bro. John Blakey officiating. Friends may visit on Monday after 5pmCT, at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Dixon Cemetery, Dixon Cemetery Road, Jamestown, KY.

Anthony (Pops) York, 97, Casey County, KY (1920-2018)


Throughout his lifetime, Mr. York worked at a service station, feed store, car lot, farmed, and operated a grocery store and gas station. He also worked at King's Department Store and managed Baldwin's Men's Store and Casey Dry Goods, which later became the Dollar General, which was the second Dollar General store in the chain. For his 90th birthday, Mr. York was gifted a self-propelled push mower, and could frequently be seen mowing his, as well his family's yards, as well as the grounds at Brush Creek Cemetery. In 2013, he was presented with a well-deserved Lifetime Achievement Award. He was a native of Casey County, KY and a resident of the county at the time of his death. He was the son of the late Ethel Monroe York & Effie Austin York and the widower of Vodella Thomas York. He leaves 20 direct living descendants, spanning four generations.

Anthony "Pops" York, age 97, passed away on Saturday, June 23, 2018, surrounded by his loving family at the Casey County Hospital in Liberty, KY.

The funeral service will be held at 12pmNoonCT/1pmET, on Tuesday, June 26, 2018, at First Baptist Church of Liberty with Bro. Brad King, Bro. Jimmy Brown and Bro. Joe Hatchett officiating. Burial will follow in Wilkerson Cemetery. The family of Mr. York will receive friends 5pm-7pmCT/6pm-8pmET, on Monday, June 25, 2018 and from 7pm-12pmNoonCT/8am-1pmET, on Tuesday, June 26, 2018, at First Baptist Church, 300 Hustonville Street, Liberty, KY.

They were always available to lend a hand or pitch in on a project.

They will be moving to The Villages in Florida.

Imogene (Clemmons) Romines, 83, Metcalfe County, KY

July 18, 1934 ~ June 23, 2018 (Age 83)


She was a homemaker and of the Methodist faith. She was the matriarch of a highly regarded South Central Kentucky family. She was the daughter of the late Robert Becil & Renia Ruth Gibson Clemmons and the widow of Anderson T. Romines. She leaves 32 direct living descendants, spanning four generations.

Fall from Wolf Creek Dam leaves teen critical

A 17-year-old male has fallen from the guardrail viewing area just south of Wolf Creek Dam on the Lake Cumberland side, not from the higher lookout on the Cumberland River Side, according to the Russell County Sheriff's Office. First Responders are on the scene.

The victim fell approximately 200 feet and was partially in the water when reached by boat by members of South Russell Fire Department and Russell County EMS.

Billy Joe Fudge: Let's be ready for the next time

The dramatic impact, first hearing the word "impromptu" in Norman Grant's FFA class, turned his life around, brought him out of the shadows, and gave him a new philosophy, perfect for the career he was born to follow. He wrote in a response to a request for a photo of his beloved 1972 VW Beetle, which he said was never the same after it lost one of its fender skirts.
