Lydia Suarez, 73, New Port Richey, FL/formerly of Columbia, KY (1945-2018)

Lydia was a long time member of the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Columbia, KY. She resided in Louisville, KY before permanently relocating to Florida. She was the wife of William Suarez, her husband of 53 years, who survives. Lydia Suarez leaves many family members in Columbia and Adair County, KY. She was a child care provider for several years in Columbia.

Columbia/Adair County Economic Development Authority approved a budget for fiscal year 2018-2019, voted to hire Veritas Appraisals Company of Elizabethtown, KY to determine the value of Green River Commerce Park acreage, and took measures in response to vandalism and theft at GRCP.

Chairman Mark Dykes chaired the meeting, with members and others present, Kenzie Rowe, Secretary; Ann Martin, Treasurer; Roger Meadows, Mayor Curtis Hardwick, and Deputy CJE Andrea Waggener, and members of the media.

CAUD Boil Water Advisory for Roley-Yuma, Dry Creek Roads area

UPDATE: This Boil Water Advisory LIFTED

A BOIL WATER ADVISORY is in effect for consumers of Columbia Adair Utilities District starting at Roley Yuma Rd., and Dry Creek Rd. The advisory has been issued due to main line break. Following such an event, the potential exists for bacteriological contamination of the water supply therefore this Boil Water Advisory has been issued as a precautionary measure. Until further notice, boil all water used for drinking and cooking, bring the water to a rolling boil for three minutes before using. The advisory will remain in effect until the situation has been corrected and test results have shown the water to be of an acceptable quality. For more information concerning the Boil Water Advisory, contact Lennon Stone at Columbia Adair Utilities District, 270-384-2181.

Superior Battery hosts community open house and RC CofC

The monthly meeting of the Russell County Chamber of Commerce will be held Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at Superior Battery, 2515 Hwy 910 Russell Springs, KY. The company is holding a community open house from 9amCT to 11am for the public to share how they are producing "in a rapidly changing world market."

The Russell County Chamber of Commerce lunch meeting starts there at 12noonCT and will be provided by Superior Battery. A tour of the facility will follow the meeting.

Metcalfe County Public Library movie night: 22 Jun 2018

The Metcalfe County Public Library, 200 S Main Street, Edmonton, KY, will host a free movie night June 22, 2018. Activities and games start at 7pmCT. The congregation of Columbia Baptist Church welcomes back Dr. Randy Johnson, as their new Senior Pastor. Bro. Cora Ann (Lawson) Gray, Taylor Co., KY (1923-2018)

December 2, 1923 ~ June 16, 2018 (Age 94)

She had made a profession of faith in Christ at an early age; she first joined the Walnut Street Baptist Church and later became a member of Lowell Avenue Baptist Church. As a young lady, she worked at the Westinghouse plant in Akron, Ohio, which switched to riveting aircraft parts during World War II. After moving to Campbellsville, she worked at the Fruit of the Loom plant for 33 years before her retirement. She loved her cats and animals, often mending wounded strays and offering them a permanent home, but her primary love was for her children and grandchildren. She leaves 15 direct living descendants. Four loyal friends will deeply miss her: Miss Fluffy, Mr. Smokey Joe, Mr. Butterscotch, and Miss Amelia Ellen, her loving cats

Murriel Temple (Brown) Wilson, Metcalfe Co., KY (1936-2018)

March 21, 1936 ~ June 18, 2018 (Age 82)


She was retired from Topps Manufacturing and a homemaker. Murriel was a lifelong member of the Society Hill Missionary Baptist Church. She was the matriarch of a highly regarded Metcalfe County family. She was the daughter of the late Roy & Leava Fields Brown and the widow of Cecil E. Wilson who passed away November 9, 2017. She leaves 34 direct living descendants.

Gordon Wesley Doughty, Taylor County, KY (1944-2018)

February 6, 1944 ~ June 17, 2018 (Age 74)


He was a retiree of the Fruit of the Loom plant in Campbellsville, where he had worked as a boiler operator. Mr. Doughty professed faith in Christ and attended the Mannsville United Methodist Church as his health allowed. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, and served his country honorably during the Vietnam era. He was born in Jackson, TN, and was a resident of Mannsville, KY, at the time of his death. His wife, Dolores Haferkorn Doughty, survives. He leaves 23 direct, two step, and one former step living descendants. Five siblings survive, including Jeanine Allen of Tennessee, Jackie Dyer of Louisiana, Charlene Semon of Florida, Michael Wilson of Columbia, KY; and Charles Wilson of Campbellsville, KY

At the request of Mr. Doughty, cremation rites were accorded him by the L.R. Petty Funeral Home.
