Cora Ann (Lawson) Gray, Taylor Co., KY (1923-2018)

December 2, 1923 ~ June 16, 2018 (Age 94)

She had made a profession of faith in Christ at an early age; she first joined the Walnut Street Baptist Church and later became a member of Lowell Avenue Baptist Church. As a young lady, she worked at the Westinghouse plant in Akron, Ohio, which switched to riveting aircraft parts during World War II. After moving to Campbellsville, she worked at the Fruit of the Loom plant for 33 years before her retirement. She loved her cats and animals, often mending wounded strays and offering them a permanent home, but her primary love was for her children and grandchildren. She leaves 15 direct living descendants. Four loyal friends will deeply miss her: Miss Fluffy, Mr. Smokey Joe, Mr. Butterscotch, and Miss Amelia Ellen, her loving cats

Mrs. Cora Ann (Lawson) Gray, a long-time resident of Campbellsville, KY, departed this life on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at the Jane Todd Hospital in Greensburg, KY.

There will be a funeral service to honor the life of Mrs. Gray on Thursday, June 21, 2018 at 12pmNoonCT/1pmET, in the chapel of the L.R. Petty Funeral Home, 1765 New Columbia Road, Campbellsville, KY. Burial will follow in the Green River Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery,3441 Old Columbia Road, Campbellsville, KY. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, June 21, after 9amCT/10amET, until time for the service.

Mrs. Cora Ann (Lawson) Gray, a long-time resident of Campbellsville, Taylor County, KY, was born on December 2, 1923 in Brady, WV. She was the daughter of late James Albert & Amelia Ellen (Shreves) Lawson. She departed this life on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at the Jane Todd Hospital in Greensburg, Green County, KY, being 94 years, 6 months, and 14 days of age. Mrs. Gray was the wife of Mr. Willis Gray, who preceded her in death in 1973.

As a young lady, she worked at the Westinghouse plant in Akron, Ohio, which switched to riveting aircraft parts during World War II. She leaves to mourn her passing:
  • Two children: Gloria Jean Morgan of Campbellsville, KY, and Lynda Kaye Lehr of Michigan

  • Four sisters: Laura Nott of Florida, Gladys Davis of Florida, Emma Stackpole of Virginia, and Gertrude Comte of Texas

  • Four grandchildren

  • Seven great-grandchildren

  • Two great-great grandchildren

  • Four loyal friends: Miss Fluffy, Mr. Smokey Joe, Mr. Butterscotch, and Miss Amelia Ellen, her loving cats

  • And a host of other family and friends
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Floyd Denver Lawson; two sisters, Mary Ellen Bane and husband Harold, and Lily Harbert and husband Ottie; four brothers-in-law, Richard Nott, Robert Davis, Delbert Stackpole, and A.J. Comte; and a son-in-law, Dennis Hugh.

The family would like to thank the staff at Green Hill Manor and Jane Todd Hospital for all their love and care.
