A health fair for students was held at Adair County Primary Center on Friday, May 4, 2018.

4-H Leadership Youth talked at the ACPS Health Fair about why drinking water is important and how much water they should drink each day. Assisting with the Adair County Primary Center Health Fair were Elizabeth Marcum, Beth Cowan, Hannah Burton, Carli Carter, Matti Willis, Hallie Burton, Taylor Smith, Morgan Spoon, Briley Burns, Kiara Collins, Rachel Brown, Alicia Coffey and Keaton Burton.

COLUMBIA, KY - (Sun 13 May 2018) - The 2018 NAIA Softball National Championship Opening Round Lindsey Wilson Bracket begins Monday at 11amCT at Marilyn D. Sparks Park, Lindsey Wilson Sports Complex, 928 Russell Road, Columbia, KY

Second-seeded Lindsey Wilson is joined in its bracket by top-seeded Vanguard (CA), No. 3 seed Freed-Hardeman (TN) and fourth-seeded Saint Xavier (IL). The winner of the double-elimination bracket advances to the NAIA Softball World Series, which runs May 25-31 at Legends Way Ball Field in Clermont, FL.

The Blue Raiders begin action on Monday against Freed-Hardeman at 11amCT, with Vanguard and Saint Xavier to follow at 1:30pmCT. Tuesday features three games at 11amCT, 1:30pmCT and 4pmCT. The championship game is set for Wednesday at 11amCT with an if-necessary game to follow.

Tony Wade Meadows, 58, Green County, KY (1959-2018)

His wife, Dixie Sharon Pickett Meadows, survives. He was a member of a respected South Central Kentucky family. He leaves two direct and three step living descendants including a son and daughter in Columbia, KY, and other close family kin Green and Adair Counties, KY, as well as elsewhere. His final resting place will be in Ladies Chapel Cemetery, KY 88, Green County, KY.

Louisville man pleads guilty to violating child exploitation laws

He faces a maximum potential sentence of 10 years in prison, a $250,000.00 fine and at least five years of Supervised Release. Sentencing is scheduled August 13, 2018, at 11amET, before United States District Judge Claria Horn Boom. remains in the custody of the United States Marshals Service.

Joe Knopp, 89, Taylor County, KY (1929-2018)

He served his country honorably in the United States Army and served two tours of war in Germany during the Korean conflict. He will be rendered full military honors by the Marion County Honor Guard at committal rites. He was a retired employee of Kroger after thirty nine years of dedication. He professed faith in Christ and was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. He was the son of the late Joe Knopp & Hazel Shipp Knopp, and the widower of Frances Bennett Knopp, his wife of 30 years. He leaves 15 direct living descendants, with deep family ties in Campbellsville & Taylor County, Knifley and Columbia & Adair County, KY, and elsewhere in Kentucky and Florida.

Robert M. (Bob) White, long-serving Adair County, KY, Clerk (1926-2018)

He was a towering figure in Adair County, KY, history, particularly in the years he was Adair County Clerk from 1962-1985. Bob served his country during WWII in the United States Navy from May 1944 to June 1946. After returning from service, he worked at Henry Sandusky's Lumber Mill and the Bank of Columbia. In 1961, he was elected as Adair County Court Clerk where he served until 1985. He was the son of the late Robert Bruce White & Lela Beard White, and the widower of Daisy Sandusky White. He leaves five direct and three step living descendants.

Maury has flower pot chards free - for flower garden decorations

I have some broken flower pot chards and hate to put them in the land fill. I made a mosaic garden from some but had to remove it. I have a couple of broken flower pots that someone could use to plant in to decorate their flower gardens. All are free. She was a member of a highly regarded family, the daughter of the late Loren and Glenna Hancock. She was a native of Wayne County, KY, and grew up in Adair County, KY. Her husband, Leamon Burton, survives. She leaves eight direct living descendants. Seven siblings of a total of 12, now survive, including brothers Oral and Ronnie Hancock of Columbia, KY, and Jeff Hancock of Russell Springs, KY. She had retired from Columbus Sportswear. She attended The Ridge and Northview Assembly of God. Betty liked to read and enjoyed walking. She also enjoyed spending time with her family. Her final resting place will be in her adopted hometown, Hope, IN.

The following homage to a special mother came from the heart of her son, Lilburn Phelps*. It appeared in the August 26, 1954 edition of the Russell County News in the "Random Sketches" column. The subject of the sketch, Sarah Prudence "Prudy" Bolin Phelps, was the daughter of Capt. John C. Bolin and Ann Eliza(beth) Forrest Bolin, the wife of Capt. John L. Phelps, and the mother of five children, four of whom lived to adulthood.
