LWC Men's Golf in 5th after 1st round at Carey Collegiate Classic

Hattiesburg, MS - The Lindsey Wilson men's golf team carded an 11-over par 299 during the opening round of the Carey Collegiate Classic on Monday hosted by William Carey (MS) at the Canebrake Country Club.

The Blue Raiders sit just 11 strokes behind tournament leader and No. 2-ranked Dalton State (GA). LWC is one stroke behind fourth-place Meridian (MS) and two strokes head of No. 19-ranked William Carey in the 12-team event.

Marlene Jeanette Beane Smith, Russell Springs, KY (1931-2018)

She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. She was a poised, gracious woman who intellect matched her great beauty. She was valedictorian of the Russell Springs High School class of 1949. She was the matriarch of a wonderful Russell County, KY, family. She was the daughter of the late Oris & Agnes Smith Beane, and the widow of Carlie Earl Smith, her husband of over 55 years. She leaves 16 direct living descendants. Her final resting place will be in Russell Springs, KY.

Gerald Lee Alstott, 81, Casey Co., KY native (1936-2018)

He was a former employee of Ford Motor Co. He was a resident of Marion County, IN, at the time of his death. He was the son of the late Daniel Christopher Alstott & Lola Pearl Murphy Alstott. His final resting pace wil be in the Alstott Family Cemetery in Casey County, KY

Allegedly fleeing CPD, Town Car reaches 90 mph in E 80 chase

Acting on numerous complaints, Columbia Police initiates traffic stop, but officers allege that 52 year old driver of 1995 Lincoln Town Car, accelerated, reaching speeds of 90 miles an hour in attempt to elude officers before pursuit ended 7 miles East of Columbia on KY East 80. Suspect lodged in Adair County Regional Jail facing multiple charges.
NOTE: Charges in an arrest are not a finding or findings of guilt. An individual charged by indictment is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty at some later criminal proceeding.

The 2018 Farm, Home & Garden EXPO presented by the Adair County Extension Council will be 10am-2pmCT, Saturday, March 17, 2018 at the Adair County Elementary School, 870 Indian Drive, Columbia, KY.

The 2018 EXPO will feature new activities as well as some of the traditional activities of past, including vendors and youth activities.

LWC Men's Bowling takes 12th at sectional championships

Smyrna, TN - The Lindsey Wilson men's bowling team turned in a 12th-place finish over the weekend at the 2018 Intercollegiate Singles and Team Sectional Championships held at the Smyrna Bowling Center.

In the team competition, the Blue Raiders racked up 11,857 total pins across the 64 games. Lindsey Wilson recorded 2,888 pins during the first block to sit in ninth place in the team standings, and despite their best block of the weekend with 3,053 pin sin their second block, slipped to 12th place after 32 games. A 2,996 in the third block helped LWC climb back to ninth place, but the Blue Raiders eventually fell back to 12th after a 2,920 in the fourth and final block of games.

LWC Women's Bowling finishes 15th at sectional championships

Smyrna, TN - The Lindsey Wilson women's bowling team finished in 15th place over the weekend at the 2018 Intercollegiate Singles and Team Sectional Championships held at the Smyrna Bowling Center.

As a team, the Blue Raiders collected 10,661 total pins across the 64 games. Lindsey Wilson collected 2,600 pins or better in three of the four blocks during the two-day event, including a 2,742 mark in block three and a team-best 2,789 mark during block two. The second-session surge helped the Blue Raiders move up to 14th place, but eventually LWC fell back down to 15th place for the weekend.

J.O.Y Ministries joins Paz Holley Project

Volunteer group and J.O.Y. Ministries is raising $100,000 to provide family of 10 a home. Couple already had five children of their own before taking in five following murder of their mother. This group of local volunteers and J.O.Y. joined together in January discussing plans to help the family obtain a home that would accommodate this large family and to take that burden of a having a roof over their heads off their shoulders. They are in the process of acquiring some property to build a new home or purchasing an already existing home that can be renovated to meet their needs. Now they need a united, caring community's help to reach their goal.

As many in the community are aware in October of 2017 a local mother of five was murdered. Her brother and his wife have taken in her children.

Eva Close Sallee Bowman, Taylor Co./Green Co., KY native (1920-2018)

She worked for 30 plus years at Fruit of the Loom. She had made a profession of faith in Christ and had been a member of First United Methodist Church in Campbellsville, KY, over 77 years as well as having attended Drakesboro Methodist Church with her daughter when she was able. She was the matriarch of a large, respected South Central Kentucky family, the daughter of the late Emmett & Fannie Sallee, and the widow of Fred Bowman. She leaves 26 direct living descendants.

Neil Salvaterra officiating. Burial will follow at Brookside Cemetery, 200 Block of W Main Street, Campbellsville, KY. The family request visitation between the hours of 10amCT/11amET and 12pmCT/1pmET, March 14, 2018, prior to the service at Lyon-DeWitt-Berry Funeral Home.

Donald Allen Wood, Cumberland Co., KY/NY native (1958-2018)

He was of Baptist faith, a United States Marine Corps Veteran, and a Diesel Technician for D and B Trucking. He was the son of the late William & Margaret Mann Wood. His wife of over 41 years, Rosemary Dean Wood, survives. He leaves four direct living descendants.

Traffic Conditions KYTC District 4 - Most roads clearing quickly


URGENT UPDATE 7:36amCT/Mon 12 Mar 2018: Road Conditions - With ground temperatures now right on the freezing line across the area, roads are freezing here before temperatures start climbing for the day. Numerous crashes are being reported and motorists should be prepared for patches of ice. - Chris Jessie

Most roads receiving snow overnight are clearing fairly easily across District 4 counties. Temperatures are hanging in the lower 30s and slushy snow on road surfaces will continue melting through the morning commute. Crews are mostly plowing. Salt usage is at a minimum.

Hammond's win marks the 19th individual national championship for a Lindsey Wilson cyclist.
