Cub Scout Pack 888 Derby winners Announced for 2018 a

Cub Scout Pack 888 held their annual Pinewood Derby on Saturday afternoon, 17 February 2018, at The First Church of the Nazarene, 1200 Jamestown Street, Columbia, KY. Twenty-one boys participated in the double elimination race. The top three finishers were: Will Reynolds (3rd place), Ethan Estep (2nd place), and Ty Coleman (1st place).

These big smiles resulted from winning the Cub Scout Pack 888 Pinewood Derby. The annual event was held Saturday afternoon, 17 February 2018 in the Church of the Nazarene Wheet Fellowship Hall in Columbia. Twenty-one boys participated in the double elimination race. The top three finishers were, from left: Will Reynolds (3rd place), Ethan Estep (2nd place), and Ty Coleman (1st place).

David Louis (Buck) Veatch, 73, Taylor County, KY (1945-2018)

He was a retired employee of the City of Campbellsville Street Department. He was an avid horseback rider and one of his favorite things to do was working in the hay field. He also loved operating heavy equipment. He was born in Taylor County, KY, was a resident of the county at the time of his death, and will be buried in Brookside Cemetery in Campbellsville, Taylor County, KY. He was the son of the late William Val Veatch & Annie Lee Shipp Veatch. His wife of over 43 years survives. He leaves eight direct living descendants, spanning three generations.

Bro. David Eugene Detty, Taylor County, KY (1952-2018)

He was the current minister of the Southside Christian Church. He married to Karen Gower Detty, who survives. Bro. Detty was a man driven by his convictions, and he held himself accountable for his daily actions. He took pleasure in God's nature and enjoyed most outdoor activities, from hunting and fishing, to farming, raising crops and softball.

Bro. David Eugene Detty of Campbellsville departed this life on Thursday, February 16, 2018, being 65 years, 5 months and 6 days of age.

There will be a memorial service to honor the life of Bro. Detty at 5pmET on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at the Southside Christian Church, 2831 Elkhorn Rd, Campbellsville, KY. Mr. Kenneth Detty and Bro. Fella Wilson will be officiating. His ashes will be interred in Ohio at a later date.

The family will receive friends at Southside Christian Church on Wednesday, February 21, after 4pmET.

The how-to-make-a-pie-crust-from-scratch class does require pre-registration. Call the Library at 270-384-2472 by Tuesday morning to attend.

Herman Cook, 76, Green County, KY (1941-2018)

He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church. He was a United States Army Veteran, serving during the Vietnam Era. He was a member of the American Legion in Campbellsville. He was a Stock Manager for Houchens Industries, where he retired after 37 years. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and golfer. He was the patriarch of a highly respected family. He was the son of the late Ulys Warren Cook & Cora Velma Atwell Cook. His wife, Judy Wright Cook, survives. He leaves six direct and two step- living descendants

Burial will be Campbellsville Memorial Gardens, 700 Old U.S. 68, Campbellsville, KY with Military Honors. Pallbearers: Kerry Davis, Kyle Davis, Victor Matney, Roger Benningfield, Vernon Ray White, and Mike Ingram. Honorary pallbearers will be The Morning Golfers and Dale Houk.

Sandra Louise Abston Curry, Columbia, KY , formerly of Burkesville (1939-2018)

She was a member of Breeding United Methodist Church, a Farmer, and an avid Gardener. She was a member of a highly thought of family, the daughter of the late John & Bertha (Branham) Abston, and the widow of Ross Curry. She leaves four direct living descendants. Her final resting place will be in Burkesville, Cumberland County, KY.
