Salvation Army serves nearly 400 through Angel Tree program

The Adair County Unit of the Salvation Army sends thanks to our community for all the donations and support this Christmas season. Because of your kindness, we were able to serve almost 400 children through the Angel Tree program! We appreciate our many volunteers and always welcome more.

The Adair County Service Unit was established in 1997. The Unit is governed by a board of volunteers. Meetings are held the first Monday of each month at 9amCT, at the Adair County 911 Center, 107 N High Street, Columbia, KY. Any interested person is invited to attend and become a part of the Unit.

Martha (Maupin) Caldwell, Adair County, KY (1929-2017)

She was a member of Columbia Christian Church and retired from the USDA. She was a member of a leading Adair County, KY, family. She was the daughter of the late Mont & Mattie Keltner Maupin and the widow of David Caldwell. She leaves seven direct living descendants.

Funeral service will be Sunday, December 31, 2017 at 2pmCT, at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Raymond Martin officiating. Burial will be in Columbia Cemetery, 315 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY. Visitation will be after 5pmCT, Saturday, December 30, 2017, at the funeral home.

KSP investigating Grayson Co., KY fatal shooting Fri 29 Dec 2017

Domestic disturbance/shooting ends tragically, with one man dead. No charges have been file. KSP Detective Scotty Sharp is continuing investigation. Case will be presented upon completio to the Grayson County Commonwealth Attorneys Office for review.

(CLARKSON, KY) - (Fri 29 Dec 2017) Kentucky State Police Post 04 Troopers and Detectives are working a Death Investigation after a Clarkson man was shot following an altercation this morning.

On December 29, 2017, at approximately 2amET, KSP Post 4 was requested by the Grayson Co. dispatch to work a domestic disturbance/shooting that occurred at 4334 Grayson Springs Road, in Clarkson.

Columbia City Hall New Year's Weekend 2017-18 Schedule

The Columbia City Hall is observing the following New Year's weekend schedule:
- Columbia City Hall offices are open today, Friday, December 29, 2017. 2017 taxes can be paid today.
- The offices will be closed, as usual, on Saturday, December 30, and Sunday, December 31, 2017.
- The office will be closed New Year's Day, Monday, January 1, and the following day, Tuesday, January 2, 2017.
- The January meeting of City Council will be on Wednesday, January 3 2017.
- City Sanitation routes will run through the holidays on a regular schedule.
- The Columbia Police Department will be on duty, though the administrative offices will be closed along with other city offices. Call 911, as always, when needing to alert police.
- The Columbia Gas Department office will be closed, but emergency calls may be placed to 911 or to the office number, 270-384-2006.

Mr. Todd Anderson, Burkesville, KY (1969-2017)

He was a native of Cumberland County, KY, and a resident of the county at the time of his death in Jefferson County, KY. He was the son of the late Kenny Davis & Virginia (Lewis) Riley, who survives, as does his fiancee, Alisha Cope, and many other close relatives in Kentucky and Tennessee, and his man's best friend, Magnum. He was of Christian faith and a self-employed carpenter and masonry worker

The funeral service will be conducted on Sunday, December 31, 2017 at 2pmCT, in the Memory Chapel of Norris-New Funeral Home, 601 N Main Street, Burkesville, KY, with burial in the Lewis Cemetery in Cumberland County, KY. The family will receive friends after 4pmCT, on Saturday, December 30, 2017 until the funeral hour on Sunday.

Dorothy -Dot- Ann Miers Patton, Green Co., KY (1939-2017)

She had made a profession of faith in Christ and attended the Liletown United Methodist Church. She was an accomplished organist and a retired school bus driver and teacher's aide, with an ever encouraging, heart-warming smile. She was a native of Luzerne County, PA, and a resident of Green County, KY, at the time of her death. She was the daughter of the late James & Vivian Allen Miers. Her husband of 60 years, Carlton Patton, survives. She leaves 13 direct living descendants. Her final resting place is in her adopted Green County, KY.

Dorothy "Dot" Ann Miers Patton, 76 Greensburg, KY, departed this life Sunday, December 24, 2017 at her home in Green County.

There was a private graveside service at the Liletown Cemetery, Liletown, Green County, KY, with Rev. Lee Warf officiating. There was no public funeral or visitation. Foster-Toler-Curry Funeral Home in Greensburg was in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Curtis Hunter Burton, Taylor County, KY (1997-2017)

He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was of the Christian faith. Hunter was a welder by trade, and had earned his certification from the Tulsa Welding School. His guitar was his passion, so while his big heart made people smile and laugh, he also had a unique ability to touch people through music. He was the son of Tony Curtis Burton of Adair County & Mandy Kay Porter of Campbellsville, KY, both of whom survive. He leaves a brother and sister, Christopher Chase Burton and Kaylie Lynn Burton, and deep family ties in Adair and Taylor Counties of South Central Kentucky.
