For to us a child is born -- a verse for this first Sunday of Advent

By Rev. John E. Chowning, pastor, Saloma Baptist Church
1505 West Saloma Road, outside of Campbellsville, KY

A verse for this first Sunday of Advent -- "For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this." - Isaiah 9:6-7 NIV

Robert Cummings: Lives to see another total eclipse

He and wife drove from Russell County to Cookeville to experience total eclipse

Robert Cumming writes:
My wife and I got up early the morning of the eclipse and drove the short distance to Cookeville TN within the two and a half minute totality range. We waited for a couple hours before the beginning of the eclipse when suddenly it started to cloud up so we jumped in the car racing west on I-40 chasing clear skies. We made to an exit where the sky was clear just in time. I must say it was one of the most intense things in my 63 years and I lived through the Kennedy assassination as a child, the first man on the moon as a teen ager, and later the 9-11-1 terrorist attack in middle age. There is unequivocally nothing quite like looking with your eyes in the sun! I live to see another! --Robert Cumming
