Groups working toward preserving the historic Adair County Courthouse have set the date of Wednesday, September 20, 2017 for spruce up/clean up of the exterior, with help from Lindsey Wilson Students in their annual Malvina Farkle day of service. I have to agree with Eula Goetz's comments on raising taxes in Adair County. Many who will be taxed do not have children or other family members in school system, and can't afford an imposed tax.

City Council Report: 11 Sep 2017 - Report

Council approves Property Tax Reduction totalling approximately $43,000. Approves $3,000 donation to Downtown Days. Tables request by airport board for additional $2,000 per year.

The Columbia City Council made good a promise made in 2014 to lower property taxes when the Payroll Tax was implemented, provided funding for Downtown Days, and tabled a request for an additional $2,000 per year to support the Columbia/Adair County Airport.

All the actions were unanimous at the meeting, chaired by Council Member Ronald Rogers, serving in the absence of Mayor Curtis Hardwick, with all council members, Craig Dean, Linda Waggener, Craig Lasley, Pam Hoots, and Mark D. Harris present and approving all three measures.

KSP investigate kidnapping resulting in death of 5-year-old boy


UPDATE: 4:45pmCT, Mon 11 Sep 2017) - McKee, Ky. (September 11, 2017) - Kentucky State Police have charged Lonnie Belt with murder in the death of James Spoonamore.
5-year olds body found through search by multiple agencies and hundreds of volunteers. The search involved helicopters from KSP and the National Guard, riders on horseback, K-9 units and search by volunteers on foot.
Note: Charges/allegations are not a finding of guilt. An individual charged by law enforcement is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty at some later criminal proceeding.

McKEE, KY - (Mon - 11 Sep 2017) - Kentucky State Police are investigating the kidnapping and assault of a Jackson County woman and her son. In the morning hours of Saturday, September 9, 2017 around 10:45amET, the Kentucky State Police and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office responded to an injured female found by hikers.

Chamber picnic moving inside due to Hurricane Irma rainfall predictions - the time will remain the same, 6:30pmCT, Tuesday, September 12, 2013.
The annual Columbia/Adair County Chamber of Commerce Picnic which is traditionally held at the Chamber Roadside Park, 2310 Hwy 55 South Road, and scheduled for tomorrow, is being relocated to the Pines at Lindsey Wilson, 275 Country Club Road, Columbia, KY.

Homeplace 2017 Fall Festival sets attendance record

It was 10th Annual Homeplace on Green River Fall Festival. HGR is officially designated as 'Kentucky's Outdoor Classroom.' Plans already underway for 'Plow Day'.
