Scenic Kentucky: Aging Barn

2017-09-03 - Franklin Co., KY - Photo by Pen.
Spotted on the trail to Elkhorn Creek across the TN Sullivan Wildlife Management Area in Franklin County. (Anybody have any notes on the barn's architecture? It's uses? What might have been the purpose of the small shed on the side - maybe a milking parlor, maybe a tobacco stripping room? Comments welcome.)

Deer season arrives

By Kevin Kelly

Frankfort, KY - The morning air is crisp and comfortable. Dew blankets the grass and clings to spider webs that glisten as the sun's rays find them.

A late August taste of fall is enough to get any deer hunter excited with anticipation about what is around the corner.

The 2017-18 deer season opened on Saturday, Sept. 2 in Kentucky with the start of the 136-day archery season. The crossbow, youth gun, muzzleloader and modern gun seasons follow later this fall.

As bowhunters prepare to return to their tree stands, and others eagerly await their opportunities, there is plenty to feel good about. Last deer season, hunters reported taking more than 139,000 deer across Kentucky. It was the third highest harvest total on record and in line with the recent trend of record or near-record harvests. The overall harvest has averaged about 142,000 deer over the past five seasons in Kentucky.

Gradyvillians commit to restoring their community marker

Deduces Diddle sign inadvertently hit by tractor or attached implement; stop sign defaced by a punk with a spray can. Hopes public funds can right the wrongs; but, if not the Babins are willing to contribute to the cause

Guy Babin writes:
We have brought up the damage to our community marker honoring our most famous resident.....

Best we can tell the historical sign was inadvertent damage by a tractor or attached implement. The defaced stop sign the result of a punk with a spray can.

It'd be nice to get them fixed if public funds were available...failing that, my wife Aline and I would be very willing to contribute to the cause.
